Fender Supersonic???

Anyone played any of these? I was in a shop today and played one. I wasn't terribly impressed, but it wasn't just bad. It had 2 clean channels on it. A Vibrolux setting and a Bassman, as well as the distortion channel.

It had some nice clean tones, but I wasn't too pleased with it's OD.

Anyone else have opinions on these?

Re: Fender Supersonic???

I think it's a solid amp
I played the combo
would rather have heard a head thru a good closed back cab to really let the gain sing

I can't justify the price. I think this amp will end up like the Prosonic, which is an amp that many pick up nly bc it's sold at fire sale prices. For that price I'd rather get a used Mesa, Marshall, Budda or pony up extra and get into a Bogner.

Re: Fender Supersonic???

For the Fender fan looking for features and a gain channel that's hotter than other Fenders, it's the amp to own. All I can say is.....retail price...no way.
When one of those heads comes up for sale in a few years....maybe, if it's a sacrifice sale. I'm not knocking the amps. They're good amps, and sound even better turned up, but $650 for the head would be my limit.

Re: Fender Supersonic???

The price tag really turned me off. In a perfect world I would buy 2 amps. I am love with the Fender cleans, but not the OD's. I wasn't terribly impressed with the OD on the supersonic, but I didn't really get to crank it either. I haven't found a dirty tone I am in love with... I really dig the tone on my Valvestate, but I am comfortable with it. It's just starting to sound really thin on my ears.

Re: Fender Supersonic???

I wasn't too impressed when I tried a supersonic to be honest. Maybe it was just the one that they had out on display, or the ac plug or somthing, but it had some crappy distortion and a lot of noise . . .

Re: Fender Supersonic???

I have already heard from a friend that with a speaker and tube swap this amp goes from bleh to YEAH!!!

Re: Fender Supersonic???

I played through one at my local mnusic store about week and was very impressed, although I did not get a chance to crank it. Having been a Prosonic owner for a couple of years, this amp is a huge improvement! It has cascading gain so you can dial in the OD you want and I liked it - was even tempted to buy it....

Re: Fender Supersonic???

I think the Pro Tube Series amps are really good, and my favorite is still the Concert Reverb 4-10. The Supersonic is a nice amp, but I'd definitely get the head/2-12 version. I'm a firm believer that the cabinetry is a big factor in amp tone, and that combo style just doesn't allow gain channels to sound good, only cleans. The Tweed and Vox style cabs sound better for gain than the blackface style cabs. Better yet, closed back cabs with Celestions sound the best for gain, but then the cleans lose their shimmer and 3D quality. It's always best to buy the type of cabinetry that suits the tone you use most.

the price tag isn't that bad. It's a 3 CHANNEL AMP, they're expensive, that's just how it is

as far as the combo version i dunno i never played it

but if you plugged into the head/2x12 and still like your valvestate better i'm gonna be in shock. The gain channel is good if you know how to use it, i think the 2 gain knobs confuse people

and the 2 clean channels are, well, the vibrolux is actually real easy to push into OD, the bassman channel stays clean longer, but neither will stay clean like a twin

I like this amp... a lot

Re: Fender Supersonic???

I think the Supersonic is a dud. Once again, Fender missed the boat trying to make a high gain amp. My Deluxe Reverb set Clean, sounds much better with a couple of choice overdrive pedals.

Re: Fender Supersonic???

I don't have any hands on time with the SS but I was definitely impressed by the one I heard at NAMM.

Re: Fender Supersonic???

Probably the best distortion channel Fender has ever designed for one of their amps, while still retaining their signature clean tones.

It's not good enough overall to make me give up any of my Mesa's, but I think they will sell a boatload of them.
