Fender Tex Mex vs Antiquity Texas Hot

Hello all,

I've got a Strat w/ Tex Mex pups in it. I was actually surprised by them, they have some charms. But I still feel I could do better. I am thinking of the Antiquity Texas Hot pups. They only thing I am worried about is losing too much of the attitude the guitar has with the Tex Mex.

I want more complexity, and sweetness, but some balls too. Can the Texas Hot's take a lot of overdrive?

Any thoughts appreciated.

the tex-mex strat pups are quite different. the texas hots are like great early 60's strat pups but with alnico II magnets which give more mids and a chewier texture to the tone. i think they take gain better than alnico 5 single coils.

they will have more complexity and sweetness than the tex-mex

Interesting, I didn't notice they have A2 magnets in them. I have another strat with the APS-1 pups, I like those fine. How much like the APS do the Texas Hot sound like? And if I wanted more of a 50's sound, which pup would be recommended? I like the high's of the Tex Mex, as far as I know, it has to do with the A5 magnets in them, I think I may want to stick to an A5 pup in this guitar.

Well put. I recently put some Texas Hot Antiquities in a custom Strat style body, and you pretty much nailed what I think of them.

I had a Jimmie Vaughan Strat with the Tex Mex pups, and it sounded pretty good, but once you play the Texas Hot Antiquities, I think you will be converted, depending on your tastes. I read that someone compared them to a bottle of fine wine. I don't think that's far-fetched at all. So many nice subtle qualities. Can't believe I waited this long to try them.
