Fender Twin Reverb as platform for a metal rig

Well my brother just moved down by me in california and wants to start up a metal core band I told him why not for fun. Only problem is I don't really want to spend any money on a new rig so I figured what the hell let me turn on the old TRRi and see what it sounds like. It sounded pretty damn good imo. Right now I'm using it with a DAM Meathead and one of my strats. I do have a Ibanez that I am going to put one of my old JB pick ups in and I think it will get me right there where I want to be. The question I have is has anyone used a fender trri for a metal rig platform ? Or have any opinions of it ?

+1

If you are that bothered about how your backline would look onstage, either hire empty 4x12 cabinets (a common stunt) or do a Geddy Lee and occupy your side of the stage with industrial washing machines.

That thing will be outstanding for metal, and don't let any idiot (including yourself :D) tell you otherwise!

Lips from Anvil uses a pair of them.

Steve Jones, father of probably one of the best rock guitar tones ever, used one. Not metal, I know, but is shows you that a Twin is not just some pretty, clean, blues and jazz machine.

They are ballsy as ****, but without sounding like some silly modern metal amp with 8,000 features. :D And they are 2x12 combos, which is GREAT for gigging in comparison to a half stack.

The problem will be finding venues in which the amp is not too much. I have an Ampeg equivalent of the Twin. It'll rip your face off for a raw rock tone...but in order to get there, you need to be playing a place with a many-thousand-watt-PA, or else your amp is so loud that you make the rest of the band sound like crap. I gig in small clubs in a "kind-of metal" band, and 15 to 30 watts seems to be ideal.

mesa v-twin.

yep....with a twin its all about the pedals.
v twin is the obvious choice and pretty awesome, but there are plenty of options out there to explore.
a pair of swamp things wouldn't hurt either.

Worked alright for Ted!... I have a 70s Plush combo ( Fender clone) that I have tweaked just a bit and she screams old school heavy very nicely. Be cool as hell to see a Twin doing the heavy stuff..

It's TIGHT
The treble SCREAMS
It's LOUD

Slap the Metal Muff of choice (nano, mini, no need for top boost...but whatever) in front and rip some heads off.

I played at a jam recently through a Twin set clean and a Blackstar Dual doing overdrive duty. From clean to crunch to scream - sounded amazing. Twins have a lot of meat to them and with the right pedals they can sound as heavy as anything.

Thanks guys I completely agree with what you guys are saying. I just didn't know if I was convincing my self to save money but I've been tweaking it more and more and I agree with the right pedal I don't think there is much you can't do with a twin reverb.

I think I'm going to look into the V-twin maybe a few others like the Blackstar I do think the Dam Meathead sounds pretty good too though. Right now I got Eminence Legends v1208.

I am in a indie rock band as well so I don't want to change the amp up too much.
