wonder if any had this problem before.
The volume of the amp (fender super twin reverb) begins to fade and is not as loud as before.
tube problem ? capacitor needs replacement ?
Some gurus pls helpppppp

thanks to all for viewing =)

Re: fender volume fades

Have you tried the other channel? Could be a bunch of different things? I'd check the tubes 1st.

Re: fender volume fades

They made tubes to be something you can easily change. Why? Because 9 times out of 10 the first thing to fail on an amp is one of the tubes. They are disposible and easy to service for a reason. :)

I'd suspect your power tubes are going bad. How old are they? How often do you play?

Re: fender volume fades

its a 1981 amp and when i bought it, the salesman told me its new tubes. Since the volume is fading away and sometime it comes back again to its original volume.

I think the tubes are going bad .. people told me to change the tubes when you buy a pre-owned amp. cuz the tubes may not be as new as what you think. Oh well ...

Re: fender volume fades

Start by completely retubing it with something good and cheap like JJ's.
If it still acts up, then a re-cap is the second step, just like you figured.

Re: fender volume fades

any idea whether it needs biasing during retubing ? or just plug and play
Pls don't say i'm asking stupid questions cuz the thing is that my tech couldn't find the bias pot... strange
someone who owns it also ? Super Twin reverb

Your tremolo is just very slow, try diming the speed knob. :smokin:

Nah, sounds like it needs a fresh set of tubes. 1981 is (relativly) not that long ago, so it's unlikely that it needs a capjob already. Unlikely, but not impossible !

good luck

Re: fender volume fades

Just because the amp doesn't have an easily accessible bias pot, there's probably one inside the chassis. I'd be very worried about an amp tech that didn't know that and I'd go somewhere else quickly. Even if there's not pot inside a few resistors and a multi-meter will allow any good tech to set the bias.

Re: fender volume fades

Before you retube try cleaning the input jacks. Sometimes the input jacks get dirty. (Humidity will cause the insides to sweat and the can get dirty. Get some contact spray at radio shack, spray inside the input jacks and then tak a small piece of emory paper (800 or 1000) roll it up like a pencil and then slide it in and out of the jack. Blow out the dirt and try it. You also may want to try a different cable. Sometimes something as simple as a new cable can fix it!

Any other solutions besides radio shack ? WD40 ?

Don't use WD 40. Its silicone and can attract dirt. It is also not the right kind of cleaner. Go to any good electronics store and buy a can of contact spray. A can of compressed air also, so you can "blow" out the cleaner after you have run some emory thru it. It could also be the input jack on your guitar. Try cleaning that as well. Heres a link.
