Fender Wide Range HB's vs Gibby HB's

I know they are larger but can anyone speak to if they are heavier in weight? I know it is a strange question but looking to remove weight.

Any help is appreciated!

IMO, regardless of the weight question, attempting to replace Gibson style HBs with genuine Fender Wide Range HBs will definitely alter the sound of your instrument. It would also involve routing bigger pickup cavities and, in some instances, the fabrication of bespoke pickup surrounds. (WRs are normally mounted through a flat scratchplate.)

Re: Fender Wide Range HB's vs Gibby HB's

Was actually considering the opposite, removing wide range for Gibby's to reduce the weight of the guitar if the wide range pups were heavier.

Here is my two penn'orth.

In an American-made Fender, I would leave the stock pickups in place.

If you have a re-issue Tele Custom or Deluxe, it would be worth upgrading to an American-made Wide Range replica. The other option is to install regularly-sized HBs through a bespoke pickguard. This will look kinda wrong though.

Re: Fender Wide Range HB's vs Gibby HB's

You probably won't notice any difference. Assuming you have a reissue, it's not like Fender is filling up the extra space with lead (FYI it's waxed string).
If it's just too heavy there isn't much you can do. People drilled out a bunch of Swiss cheese like holes in a guitar with nominal difference. So sans chambering the whole thing, just get a wider strap, replace the body, replace the guitar, or just deal with it.

Wide Range is definitely heavier. The cover could handle a hit from a 20mm.

You could try a set of these guys and at least lose the weight of the cover:

...though they're a bit pricey.

If the OP guitar is a Seventies solidbody Fender then the real problem is the weight of its body. Changing pickups will make no noticeable difference. Get a wide and well padded strap.
