FGPD! (Finished Guitar Project Day)

The last of the parts came in on Thursday for my GFS HH Strat project and I’ve been chomping at the bit for the weekend to come so I could get on it. So I got up this morning, made some coffee, and got started. Took me most of the day but it came out pretty good!

I was going for gaudy but rockin’ and I feel like I nailed it:

• Pauwlonia body with celluloid top
• Maple neck with Bolivian Rosewood board, mother of pearl block inlays, and celluloid headstock overlay.
• GFS Dream 180 humbuckers (a favorite of mine) in Chrome with White Pearl
• Wilkinson trem
• Locking tuners
• Push/Pulls to split to inner coils (hum canceling) and for OOP
• Badass strap from Walker & Williams
• A mere 6 pounds of fun!

Without further ado... may I present the latest addition to the BriGuy harem: “Ivy!”

So far it’s looking like I got pretty lucky... haven’t had to adjust the truss rod at all for action, just the bridge height (we’ll see if that changes as it settles into itself). Also 3 of the strings were right on for intonation and the other three fell into line quite easily.

All in all a fun day! [emoji2]

Super groovey! Wikinson/Locking Tuners was the best term I ever had period - Floyds included.

Whatcha gonna play on it?

I’ve never had a Wilkinson trem before, but I like it so far. VERY smooth to use, but I haven’t made up my mind about the push-in arm yet.

My thing is classic rock, so that’s what’ll get played on it. On Tuesday I have an audition with a new band that will be doing 70’s/80’s/90’s rock in some of the local breweries... we’ll see how that goes.

Sweeeeet
So which tuners did you go with?

What is it you like about the Dream 90s?

Could you post directions to you house and your next vacation schedule please?

The tuners are the Sperzel knockoffs that GuitarFetish sells on their site.

The Dream 90s are humbucker-sized P90s that sound to me more like a typical Strat single-coil but with the power of a P90. I like them a lot and I actually have them in the blue guitar you can see hanging next to this new one.

But THIS ONE actually has the Dream 180s which are humbuckers! [emoji12]

I have a set of these already in my RG and they’re a nice, bright pickup that responds VERY well to pick dynamics or volume control. Every time I play that RG I find myself marveling at how nice it sounds, so I decided to go with them on this project too (also they come in the pearl which was PERFECT for this guitar). My RG is maple body & neck but this paulownia body seems to have a brighter sound to it (still sounds great). It’s funny because I can hear the difference in the neck pickup position as well since this is a 22 fret neck and the RG is a 24.

My wife and I are leaving for a mini-vacation Wednesday morning (company thing at a Disney resort), so you’re welcome to come try to find my place, but beware of my daughters (24, 17 & 12) who will be home and angry because they don’t get to come with us! [emoji41]

Awesome job. The color on the body and the headstock are great.
Your custom engraving looks a lot like mine.

1.
Th GFS sperzels with the knob on back,? Good choice I like those a lot

2.
The dream 180s
I love a bright single on the neck, one of the reasons I have so many Jazz / JB sets here
I ,like you, put a Jazz in an RG. Sounded wonderful compared to th OEM
I found deals on several sets. And have started slapping them in everything

3.
Friggin kids, they ruin everything
Oh well I was gonna be your reverse Santa Claus.
Show up in July, leave.dusty spots where all your Christmas presents Sat

Maybe next year.

Fingers crossed:laughing:

Edit
On sa side note for the pickups.
I found on Aliexpress where you can get the Epiphone Probuckers for around $50
Harness and all
I was just playing the neck.split and I don't know if it was the ground round strings or the split single
But it sounded wonderfully stratish
With the clarity and chime you expect
