Final advice req. for Strat style sss replacement pickups

After dragging my heals, I think I may have decided on the following pickups on my Levinson Blade R4.

Area 61 dp416 middle

Virtual vintage 54 pro dp408 neck

Virtual solo dp420. BRIDGE

Tried YouTube clips but I can’t really tell the difference between any of them.

My real question, is there any big tonal difference in the Area 61/67 etc and the Virtual Vintage range or is it just splitting hairs. I’ve read all the specs on the Dimarzio web page.

Anyone else been down this path?

And I thought Ir’s were a rabbit hole :).

Youtube clips only really tell you anything when dozens of em from various sources all point to same conclusions


Else youre left wondering how much of what you hear is some idgit's cranked 6505 with too much chorus and noisegate/ line 6 / kemper / chinese speakers mic'd with cellphone camera, etc. Coloring the hell out of the review

Otherwise youre gonna need to find a store, a buddy, or bite the bullet and compare it yourself

PS to verify the usefulness of reviews, check the reviewers' other vids....some of em manage to sound identical whether playing vintage thinline teles with singles or 8 strings with emgs

I'd roll with that combination without hesitation. BUT ...

If you're still unsure, email DImarzio tech with the fine details of your playing, style, tones you want, output desired, and every detail of the guitar and they will also recommend something that will work great.

But again, I'd roll with that combination and see for myself.

Thanks guys, I have actually ordered these now and will just see how it goes. At least no one has said “ No, that combination is a disaster”.

I certainly will. I’m intrigued as to a what they’ll sound like. I might be waisting my time and money and I’m better off with the pre installed Levinson pickups, don’t know until I try. But I’d always be left wondering.

I’ve already made a recording of the current pickups so I can compare. Delivery time 2-3 weeks, so watch this space. :)
