FINALLY close to capturing the actual tone of the SPLAWN !!!

Re: FINALLY close to capturing the actual tone of the SPLAWN !!!

Sounds good, but not loud enough! I can still hear your strings! :laugh2:

Yeah I know you've gotta be considerate of the people round about you, but I'm sure in time they'll grow to love loud metal guitar if you pelt it at them enough :saeek:

LOL, actually, it WAS loud! It's the stupid compressor on the camera!
Short of being deafening, It always picks up the 1st transient, which is the pick attack. I think there's some psychoacoustic thing going on, as well, with my body and the gtr being between the amp and the mic ...

Thats it, I can't stand it. Do you have any CDs or an EP out right now and how much is it? :)

Re: FINALLY close to capturing the actual tone of the SPLAWN !!!

Ben I watched this last night....

Most of the Splawn clips I hear here and on HC (and on the Splawn site)always have wayyy too much gain. Too fuzzy or too compressed.

The thing I always love about your tone is the "restraint" you show in the use of gain.

You've got an ear for that "threshhold"..where the gain is just about to oversaturate the pickups to the point of mush or too much compression, yet where it's still got enough gain to do the chugga chugga and notes remain fluid and clear/open. It's something I try to achieve myself (and don't always succeed at).... but regardless of whether you are using the VG88, Rivera, the Laney, or the Splawn you always hit that "sweet spot", IMO.

Killer playing too. (as always)..loved that riff/lick...you looked like Dave Murray there with the "fretting hand flurry" going up and down the neck :D
