Finally Got a Marshall Full Stack

Ive got many Marshall angled cabinets, loaded with all sorts of Celestions, but a Straight older 1960B(C) or JCM800 Cabinet has always eluded me. Just never many at all up for grabs at a decent price compared to the angled cabinets, at least not around here and I've looked plenty hard for a long time.
Well, today I finally got a Marshall 1960BC Straight Cabinet.

Heres how it went down;
I was up all morning after having not been able to sleep well.
I was working towards getting back to bed at about , I guess noon, when I saw a Craigslist ad pop up. 'The guy was selling a Marshall Cabinet for 190.00
I live about 70 miles from where he was, so i called him up, and he was surprised that he had just put the ad on and someone called.

I asked him if I gave him 120, would he meet me close to half way.
This served two purposes..I didnt have to drag my ass all the way down to San Antonio, and it would get him motivated towards a commitment to sell it by travelling to meet me , before anyone else could snag it out from under moi.

Anyway, its in great shape for being from the late 80's I think. The guy was the original owner. Its missing one wheel, so I'll need to order one, and they aint cheap.
I haven't opened it up, or played through it, so all the speakers could be shot, but I'm banking its okay.
He said they were the original 25 watt greenbacks.
So, I told him I would give him 30 bucks more than 190 over the phone, but when i met him in person, he said I told him I'd give him 130.00.
Well, I actually said I'd give him 120, but I had 8 bucks in my wallet and he settled for that and the 120.00.

Here she is and I love her.
I can't wait to set my angled JCM 800 G12-65 cabinet on top! i earned you really MUST have a full stack to get the most out of sound of that angled cabinet hitting you right in the face!

As you can see, it needs cleaning up and has a few snags.
I'm fixin' to clean it with Murphys oil soap. Then I'll throw some Black magic on it. The bastard pushed the thing into my truck bed with rhino lining and pretty sure put those scuffs in the top edge.

Welcome to the club!! Looks like you got a great deal. If I was you I wouldn't even worry about the caster. Just take the other ones off and set it on the ground like you have it in the pics.

Re: Finally Got a Marshall Full Stack

I like the cabinet, but I find your math very confusing.

Trust me, if the world relied on people like me to be engineers, we'd all be living in mud huts and driving oxen to work. :)

Your gonna think I'm crazy, but i actually like the bottom cabinet to be decoupled from the floor. It makes the bass a little cleaner and the upper midrange notes articulate a little bit better...maybe even a littel more space between the treble notes.

If you can get your grocery store to sell you a $4 bottle of Murphy's Oil Soap for a buck, after haggling with the cashier, get some. lol

Then scrub that thing down with Murphy's, warm water, and a sponge. It'll remove all the dirt stuck in the crevices and make it look closer to new.

Those Marshall cabs look all the better for a beating!

Let's see it in context!

Re: Finally Got a Marshall Full Stack

that's a goddamn deal if I ever saw one.

why doesn't this kinda thing ever happen in Canada?

Re: Finally Got a Marshall Full Stack

100 watts, Backs never been off. And yeah, I meant 220.00, not 120.00. Ended up paying 228.00 plus gas up and back, about 50 miles.

So you paid more than the advertised price? I have some stuff here I want to sell you too!

Good catch though, but is that a booger below the sticker? -Rod-

Re: Finally Got a Marshall Full Stack

ok, the average marshall cab goes for about $500-600 here. that's fairly reasonable considering their retail value up here is at least twice that.

Toronto's a weird city. there are quite a few buyers/collectors of boutique items, and the economy has been doing well in recent years, but it's really difficult to make any money on buying/selling anything second hand here.

Re: Finally Got a Marshall Full Stack

Thats a great price.....especially if it's got Greenbacks in it. I have two slant cabinets loaded with Greenbacks, they sound so good I sold my other cabinets.....including 2 Bogners 4x12s! Something about the way those Marshall cabs "breathe".....
