Finally got my new axe back! (pics, strat content)

Well it took 2 and a half weeks, but my new guitar is finally back in my hands! It was quite the journey so let me enlighten you... (other pics at the bottom)

I was randomly checking a local (45 min away) stores website for used strats when I saw it: a mim richie samboura strat! It had everything I wanted my next strat to have, a floyd, HSS, white etc! I already have a black mim standard hss but I was looking for another strat so I could have 2 strats, but each different!

So I went and tried it out and it played AMAZING, there wasnt much info on the strats online so I had to make my own judgement. It has a bigger neck ("D" i beleive I read somewhere), is WAY heavier then my other strat (although I'm pretty sure its still alder) and the pikcups were much better. Now...here was the problems. First, no locking nuts or trem arm, the dimarzio paf pro in the bridge position was not working right (massive drop in volume, sounded thinner then single coils) and frets 15-17 fretted out on the b and g strings. BUT, because this guitar felt SOO solid and just "felt right" I had to get it...and I knew all those things could be easily fixed! so I talked him down and got it.

Now...heres where the fun began! Brought it into the local shop the next day for a full setup and all that jazz. I replaced the dimarzio (after trying different wirings with no avail) with a seymour duncan JB, got the replacement parts for the floyd, got the fretwork done etc...it took longer the nexpected but man was it worth it!!

Now it plays like a dream! Compared to my mim standard it's:
-heavier
-way more solid feeling
-more strat like quack
-different features

I still love my mim standard, but I'm glad I got this as it is still a strat...but is still DIFFERENT enough to feel like a different guitar!
Here's all the features I've seemed to grab so far:
-5 peice alder (but freakin heavy) body
-Floyd Rose II system (one of my biggest things was I didnt want a liscened trem unless it was a schaller, the floyd rose II is still a lesser version of the OFR BUT it is made BY floyd rose)
- maple neck (beautifuly aged look) with rosewood fingerboard (with great colour and grain)
-"D" shape neck
- Seymour Duncan JB trembucker (this pickup is AMAZING! I might even like it better then my Custom in my other strat)
-Medium Jumbo Frets

I think thats it, sorry for the long post but I thought I'd post my whole story as its been a fun one! As of now it plays AMAZING and everything is top notch. It does have some finish cracks and it slightly buzzes on the frets that were fretting out. Also the humbucker is wired out of phase so the inbetween position sounds very twangy and tele like (I actually like it).

And one last thing, if anyone wants to hear how stupid the local guy is when it comes to Fender's please ask! I'd love to vent about that.

Very cool! Congrats! I love the Sambora model! I like the black trem arm too.. sets the pup off

Love it. Like the blackie better but love it.

What about the guy? Vent away :D

Re: Finally got my new axe back! (pics, strat content)

Very nice.
But, I don't believe that Floyd II is Schaller made.
It would have the "Made in Germany by Schaller" stamp right above the trem socket.

I believe FMIC had Floyd Rose for a short period and were out-sourcing to more than just Schaller.

I don't know if FMIC still has any control over Floyd Rose.
Or if Floyd himself has full ownership of his patents again.

Ok, first off the man is very knowledgable about guitars, but is retarded when it comes to fender. He also hates fender so that doesnt help, you could bring in 5 brand new custom shop strats and he'd tell you they were all crap. I'm going to miss alot of things but I'll point out some major ones:
-tried to convince my 100x the floyd wasnt stock...the floyd rose II was designed FOR fender and can only be found on Fenders.
-tried to convince me the dimarzio humbucker wasnt stock and the person who installed it installed it wrong and it sounded like crap cause the wiring was off (when installing a humbucker with fender single coild you ALWAYS switch the leads so its in phase...he didnt know this and explains why my one now is out of phase, even tho I do like that position!)
- *****ed about the "swimming pool" route. He was *****ing about it and saying it robs the guitar of tone and he cant beleives they do that and hack all that wood out etc. Then started bashing fender and especially the mexican factory. I then told him that my other mim is routed hss and that most (the modern, not reissues) US fender bodies are routed swimming pool.
-Also, he had to do work on the frets trwice because he screwed up the first time...yeah I was a happy camper.

So thats most of it I think. I am definatly goign to get a full fret dress done to it in the next couple months...but will be bringing it to a luthier. I really liek the guy at this store and hes done lots for me...but lately I've been having bad experiences.

What do you mean? Does schaller own floyd rose now?? All I know is the floyd rose II was made by whoever owned the company in 1994 because it says floys rose right on it, it is NOT liscened.

I love those white Sambora Strats. Glad it all worked out in the end.

No Schaller does not own Floyd Rose.
After Floyd Rose and Kramer guitars parted ways, Floyd Rose teamed up with Fender.
But, where Schaller was used to build the Floyd/Kramer era trems, I don't believe Fender always used Schaller to build the Floyd/Fender era trems.
I believe yours was contracted out to some other manufacturer.

My point being, you said in your original posts you wont buy a guitar with a Lic. Floyd on it. That it has to be a OFR or Schaller made trem.
Well, yes your says Floyd Rose II.
But, I don't believe it's made in the Schaller Factory.
Might be MIM/MIK, or MIJ made.
Ping or Mighty mite possibly?

Re: Finally got my new axe back! (pics, strat content)

Schaller made ones will always have the stamp by the trem socket.

Re: Finally got my new axe back! (pics, strat content)

Very nice Strat!!!! And the Black one looks killer also......just like my 96 MIM Strat except mine has 3 single coils!!!

What year is your Black one?

Re: Finally got my new axe back! (pics, strat content)

ahhhhh, thanks for the info kherman, I understand now. But it would be all floyd rose specs right? I read that floyd II's have same dimensions of OFR's so you can swap it anytime you like. Thanks for the info.

My black one is a 96 :)

Re: Finally got my new axe back! (pics, strat content)

Is that the one that was at class-axe guitars? Cause that was a freakin amazing deal.

Re: Finally got my new axe back! (pics, strat content)

Yes it was! And I got it for even cheap and got him tothrow in a free gig bag :)
