So I finally got the time to install the set of Custom Shop Jimmy Page pickups I had lying around in my Les Paul. Took me a while because I set them up with a 21 tone wiring harness. What a difference this whole setup made to my guitar! I still need some time to fiddle around with all the different push/pull settings but as far as the 'normal' settings go the pickups sound fantastic.
The pickups replaced the stock set from my LP Traditional (Gibson 57+ bridge & 57 neck). I found this set to be a little too generic sounding (at least in my guitar). The 57+ in the bridge was quite bright and a little thin sounding and the 57 neck pickup was decent but I have had better luck with a SD '59 in the past.
The JP Bridge got rid of the brightness that the 57+ had. It almost seemed hotter than the SD Custom 5 that I used in the past, but I found that it is very sensitive and extremely versatile with use of the volume and tone controls. The JP Neck is very balanced, I would say it is very close to a '59 neck but with a little less bass (IMHO that is a good thing). The best thing about this set is the middle position, with everything on full it has that nice honky characteristic that the stock set just did not have. I couldn't help but quickly play the 'Whole Lotta Love' riff and it nails that sound to a T.
Now that the 'Whole Lotta Humbucker' set will be released to the general public I can highly recommend these pickups to try out.
