Finally modding my RG560

After much procrastination and buying lots of other gear, I'm finally getting around to modding the RG560 I got last year. Megadrive going in the bridge and I decided to go with a chopper in the neck instead of the heavy blues 2 which will now go in my ESP Maverick along with a norton. But not here to talk about the maverick here's a couple progress pics of the RG, pardon the green towel on the body, it just there while the trems blocked

In it's original state I got it in with the EMGs

Stripped down and with the pickguard

Hit a snag with wiring it up, didn't get any sound, but after some trouble shooting it seems the jack needs to be replaced so I'm just gonna start from scratch again since I have tons of switches and pots on hand, though I don't have the barrel jack Ibanez used so I'm waiting for that to come in. Also I had to get some new screws for the chopper, the ones DiMarzio sent are super thick and don't fit right. I'm digging the look though despite all the other technical problems, the white pickguard really shows off the creamy aged white.

Re: Finally modding my RG560

Update: Just rewired and it's working fine, except I got my wires mixed up in the cavity so the pickup selector is working backwards because I'm an idiot. Other than that that it's all good, I've just gotta mount the pick guard properly and string her up which I'll do tomorrow. I did put one string on it to make sure it was working and I'm surprised at the output of the megadrive, it's supposed to be around 350mv, but it's pushing my clean channel harder than the Evo in my Jackson and there's a pretty big volume drop of between it and the chopper, but it will probably balance out once I get the height adjusted. Will post more pics tomorrow once I put strings on.

Re: Finally modding my RG560

This reminds me of a joke.

How many guitarists does it take to screw in a light bulb?

21, one to screw it in and twenty to say how they would have done it.

Re: Finally modding my RG560

I can't find all the bits for my drill, so the pickguard is still macgyvered onto the body for now.

In any case it's no biggie if some of you don't dig the changes, H-S is my preferred pickup configuration and I'd rather have a pickguard than a dummy pickup or an empty pickup route. Also I really don't like EMG's so there was no chance they were staying.

Re: Finally modding my RG560

Happy New Mod Day! I really like the way that guitar looks with a pickguard and the HS setup, especially in solid color guitars! Well done, good sir! Is that a Dimarzio Crunch Lab in the bridge? And what p'up did you put in the neck?

A few years ago, I upgraded my '90 RG570 HSH stock p'ups with an Alternative 8 bridge, Classic Stack Plus middle, and Screamin Demon in the neck. I was a hair's width away from getting a Crunch Lab in the bridge. Great pickup, especially in Basswood and Alder, IMHO.

Thanks man! It's actually a DiMarzio Megadrive and a chopper in the neck. It sounds pretty good, but I'm still tweaking the height. Your 570 must sound great, I've wanted to try a screamin demon in the neck for awhile, but I keep ending up with DiMarzio's lol.

Ahhh cool! Never heard of those Megadrives before. Had to go look it up. I would've guessed it was a Ceramic pickups, but I was wrong... Alnico 5. I bet it sounds killer from the specs!

I am shocked at how good the Screamin Demon is in the neck! By specs alone, I figured it wouldn't have enough clarity and chime... boy was I wrong. My arm was practically twisted into trying it, and now I'm hella glad that I did!

Congrats on finding something you like! We all have our own opinions, but if it makes you happy, thats what matters!
