Finally!!! NPB build thread!!!

Re: Finally!!! NPB build thread!!!

Here’s the cable:
https://www.redco.com/Canare-GS-6.html
The jacks are your standard straight, right angle and pancake jacks. Not a name brand.

I sound tested a few by just plugging the cable from guitar to amp, yes the cable was only about 8-10”. But when compared to some planet waves 20’ cables I have the short patch cables were very noticeably worse. All of the Splawn mojo was gone. [emoji853]

Redco has a brand called lake cable which is considerably lower capacitance. 28pf/foot. Where the Canare is 160pf/meter. Which is about 52pf/foot. Big difference there.

If my experiments tomorrow fail, and I believe it will. I’ll try that brand.

Maybe try different jacks? The jacks and connections to them will make more of a difference than the capacitance of your cable.

About a year ago I bought some new low capacitance cables from BTPA and they were almost too bright; my favorite cable in terms of tone is Mogami 2524 which is roughly 40pf/ft.

I also was reading that people have found some particular cable bright as well. Be been using a Standard planet waves cable and like them but I’m unsure what the capacitance is.
I also tried looking up info on jacks but had a hard time finding any specific info. Most of what I found basically said any decent quality jack will be ok. And some of the name brand stuff get super expensive!! But you’re probably right. I’ll look into some more.

I also just remembered that my switcher has 2 buffers built in. One is switchable on/off. Maybe that would help?

Just looked up the BTPA...looks like they have some really good stuff!

Re: Finally!!! NPB build thread!!!

Ok, I did a little online research.
The planet waves cables that I like have 28 pf/foot capacitance.
The Lake Cable on Redco.com is the same.
I went ahead and order some. Unfortunately it only comes in black☹️. I was hoping for some colored cable but it’s all good anyway!!

They make great stuff. I ordered new long cables to go from guitar to board and board to amp done in their CA-0446 with a braided jacket and Neutrik plugs.

According to BTPA your Canare CS-6 is 49pf/ft, while Mogami 2524 is 39pf/ft and CA-0446 is 20pf/ft.

Re: Finally!!! NPB build thread!!!

I had a chance today to spend a bit of time making patch cables for my board.
I got roughly a dozen or so made. And YES, I both tested them with the multi meter and by plugging them into one of my amps and sound checking them. I’m glad to say the Lake Cable sounds great. I’m impressed with it. It’s also easy to work with. It’s stiff enough to be rugged but flexible enough to not be troublesome.
No pics this week since there’s not much to see.

Re: Finally!!! NPB build thread!!!

Ive got all of the pedals wired up.
None of the components here are attached to the board just yet.
I made the cables a little longer than needed to insure that I have enough play to be able to move things where I need them.
I have some plastic cable clips that I will install to keep the cables immobile once everything is done.
All that’s left is to make cables for the routing through the noise gate and routing the in/outs from the switcher to my junction box located inside the board.
This last part is gonna take a little planning as the routing can get confusing!!

Right now it just looks like a sloppy mess but once everything is actually attached it will be much cleaner looking.

All of the cables are made, and the pedals are attached to the board.
The routing isn’t quite as neat as I would have liked but if I’m being realistic, deep down I know it wouldn’t be. But at least the cabling is cinched down so it isn’t moving. I’m sure I’ll find that something is wired incorrectly...lol
I still may decide to go back and try to get it neater, idk.
Maybe I can come up with something to either cover the cable cluster or maybe some type of sleeve run the top few through and hide the lower tier? I’m open to suggestions!!

Actually, that looks good. Unless you run all the cables underneath, it is difficult to avoid lots of cables sitting around. With so many cables though, there are lots to check if for some reason you plug in and get no sound. Not something to do at a gig (like I've tried).

Thanks!!
I thought about running all the cables underneath but in the event I needed to troubleshoot at a gig that makes it difficult.
There are red and blue heat shrink around certain cables. That’s so I can follow the routing in front of the amp (blue) and in the Fx loop (red) if I need to troubleshoot

Re: Finally!!! NPB build thread!!!

Tonight I just need to wire up the power to each pedal and I should be about ready to test it.
