I played it through a broken Mesa Boogie Lonestar. The 2nd channel was broken but the clean channel worked perfectly. Before I get into the pedal let me tell you about the amp. It was on a very clean setting. Mesa amps are a lot like Fenders just in case you don't already know. The cleans are very clean unless you have the gain all the way up, which is how I had it set. With that setting the amp still doesn't sound overdriven. Very clean.
First off, the pedal didn't remind me of a DS1 at all. It has a whole different character. It's capable of a good amount of distortion. The more switch adds a little gain and beefs up the sound. The tone control was kind of subtle.
Overall impression: good definition, responsive but thin.
The pedal has a sweet spot at 3:00 on the gain dial, 1:00 tone & level 1:00. Besides being thin, it does not do a good job of mild overdrive. When you lower the gian it sound flat and less dynamic. If you put this pedal up against a Maxon OD820 it would sound like a Marshall MG compared to a 1959 Handwired in my opinion.
It sells for $129 but worth $79 unless you are out to cop Satch's tone. I'm not going to buy it. All this being said, it's not a bad pedal. It sounds pretty good in fact but it has shortcomings.
