Finally some clips of my wrecked ENGL, please listen and diagnose if possible.

Okay i finally got around to recording some clips of my silly ENGL so you can all hear what ive been ranting about.

I recorded two clips, one on its crunch 1 and one on its crunch 2, just quick clips of some sloppy scales but enough to show you what i mean.

The amp is an ENGL Savage 120 in case anyone doesnt know, through an ENGL vintage30 quadbox, played on a jackson ps2 with a lisenced floyd and a JB trembucker in the bridge.

And i wasnt muting any of the notes if thats what it sounds like....thats just what the amp sounds like! :blackeye:

Here is the link to a clip of the crunch1 channel:

and here is the link to the worst sounding channel, crunch2:

And they seemed to have been recorded at low volume so you may have to turn up your volumes...but they're definitely there.

Ill post a reply just after this post with the settings used on it.

And ive tried this amp on a marshall AX quad and a mesa vintage 30 rectifier quad with a les paul gold top custom shop and still sounds as bad!

Re: Finally some clips of my wrecked ENGL, please listen and diagnose if possible.

man that amp has no sustain or singing quality....it doesnt sound anywhere near what the ENGL i played sounded like.....and for the money, thats not good tone IMO....unfortunately i have the slightest idea why it sounds like that

Thanks flank, tell me about it its not a cheap rig! Im determined to get to the bottom of it though ;)

Re: Finally some clips of my wrecked ENGL, please listen and diagnose if possible.

Have you posted on Engl's forum? I would think someone there would have a clue as to why you and this amp are not hooking up.

Re: Finally some clips of my wrecked ENGL, please listen and diagnose if possible.

Nah not yet, i think the forums are in german :smack:

Re: Finally some clips of my wrecked ENGL, please listen and diagnose if possible.

Yeah there german, I was going to ask about YA amp there. Damn man, I think my rogue sounds better than that. I think its the preamp tubes IMO. Turn the amp on, play something constant, and have someone look behind the amp for an irregular tube. You can usually spot it real quick.

Re: Finally some clips of my wrecked ENGL, please listen and diagnose if possible.

yeah man, check for tubes.

Re: Finally some clips of my wrecked ENGL, please listen and diagnose if possible.

Ive looked for suss tubes and there is nothing noticable. An "expert" even "claimed" to look at it and found nothing, but going by what it sounds like i doubt he even listened to it! grrrrrrrrr

I think ill just end up swapping all the tubes out for new ones, i think its probably due for it, it would easily be a couple of years with some heavy touring and gigging by the previous owner in between since it was retubed, if its ever been retubed that is!

Re: Finally some clips of my wrecked ENGL, please listen and diagnose if possible.

re tube. then, if still bad, have all the coupling caps replaced. might be some DC leaking onto a grid.
