Finally! - some tuneage for ya

The band have at long last managed to get some tunes down in the studio.

Not exactly as huge and dynamic as I had hoped, but for limited studio time and money, at least we now have some tuneage to help get more gigs in the right venues.

These are the 4 ballads from our set -.... tunes yet to be mixed are much heavier and faster paced.
If you are into APC, Tool etc., give us a listen and tell me what you think.
Cheers

Man, I am totally loving this! Great stuff. The balance is good when you have a more clean sound, but when you kick in the distortion I would personally either lower the vocals a tad bit or up your guitar work. But really, this sounds great. Looking forward to hearing some of your non-ballad songs too. :)

Re: Finally! - some tuneage for ya

That's great stuff man!

As soon as it started I immediately thought "tool"

Great tone for the genre mate!

Turn the vocalist down!

Exclamation points!

Re: Finally! - some tuneage for ya

Thanks lads, that means alot to me.

I totally agree about the meat and two veg / vocal level but studio mixing on those tracks was starting to cost too much so we're going to get the master drum tracks and vocal tracks and remix ourselves.
There's a good gig coming up for desk recording and video, so the live set should be a bit more realistic.
I'll bore you with more stuff then LOL

Enjoyed that.... excellent stuff! I look forward to hear more from you guys for sure.

Re: Finally! - some tuneage for ya

So here is the Review I promised.
I am trying to be objective here !
I like the style a lot all around and am actually happy with the mixes.
I like the vocals except Amnesia. He needs more to dig deeper to keep the feeling.
The intro on reacher is too generic and the tone is not enough to make it exciting. The Iron Maiden esque beginning is not that brilliant.I would work it out and make it more complex like at the 3:45...That's the point where the vocal quality meets the music quality. The sound get's alive.
Further the Fall is the best song on myspace. It's full ,the drums bass and guitars are just perfect balanced and the Vocals are beautifull. Your vocalist is as good as the guy from Tea Party. And that's a biiig compliment. As said ,only the amnesia is a bit weak on vocals.
Shadow on the sun is cool ,I di it but it's not my style. So critique would be not objective.

The guitars are well played and the tones except amnesia are extremely good.

All in all ,I dig it and would buy it!
Cheers!

Re: Finally! - some tuneage for ya

Fine compliments indeed!

Since recording Reacher, we have dropped the intro playing live ..... we also thought it was a bit weak
I will make sure the singer sees this to constructively boost his ego!
I'm glad you like the overall feel, considering your tastes are a fair bit heavier LOL, so I know you'll be into the grinder tunes when they are finished.
Cheers for taking the time to listen Dude!

Man it's maybe nut much "egdier" but it's quite heavy ,and the feeling is just strong ,powerfull and emotional.
I love Tool and I love this kind of music.
I loved SG's bad motorfinger too so it's quite "cool" or "hot" sounding for me.
You did well bro. It's worth your money and time!:friday:

Re: Finally! - some tuneage for ya

Cheers lads!
I really appreciate the encouragement
More tunes to follow in a bit.

Re: Finally! - some tuneage for ya

Good to hear! I'm going to listen a few more times. The basic recording quality seems good.
Looking forward to more.:cool2:

Re: Finally! - some tuneage for ya

Yes/No..........You need more lyrics or something on the Sun and Moon one.
I like the recording overall.Your singers got a good voice.I presume it's you plunking the strings? Some thing about the mix or the arrangement in the third one.It doesn't quite bring out the rhythm of the track.I like the last one best,so far.

Re: Finally! - some tuneage for ya

Cheers for listening GV
Ah, sure, ya can only please some of the people some of the time.
Bits of the lyrics in Shadows on the Sun are too repetative for me too, but our singer is quite indulgent!
I don't think we are going to re-work these tunes short of some decent money, and they were written a good while ago now. There are too many newer and heavier tracks to concentrate on.
Are you sure you mean the third track for confused rhythm? Sounds ok to me.
Maybe you only have one speaker turned on? LOL

Not so much confused, as" it could be a little more dynamic/sit out more". I'm probably nitpicking on the mix.Either way,a good track

Makes sense.
Any guitar soloing in any of the newer stuff?

Re: Finally! - some tuneage for ya

Yip, I agree with sitting out more on nearly all the heavier guitar parts especially.
Live, the bass is distorted in the thicker bits and I boost for more volume.

Yes, it's me plucking away, and writting all the songs without lyrics, but overall arrangement is down to the whole band.

There is some soloing on the heavier tracks - not shred worthy, but at least I get a chance to stop being the rhythm guitarist for a bit (we are only a four piece, so can sound a bit empty if I'm not pluggin' away in the background.)
We don't do overdubs, so that we can sound the same live as recorded.
Cheers

I know from my early years how hard it is to keep Guitar ,drums and bass happening while trying to bring in solos too,so i know what you mean there. That helped me develop a fill/rhythm style.

Keep writing and project towards something that you hear and doesn't exist yet.New quickly becomes old.
