Finally tried some Seth Lovers

I now know why the Seth's are so well loved. I put a set in a Warmoth VP body, mahogany/maple cap, and they sound lovely. The cleans are just smooth, and they are so articulate.

I am definately leaving them in.

Re: Finally tried some Seth Lovers

I agree! :) I especially like the bridge.. lots of character, pure tone... great in a Les Paul, for classic rock tone.

Re: Finally tried some Seth Lovers

Well...kiss my grits......you actually posted! I've got to add that his Warmoth does sound awsome with the Seth's.

Re: Finally tried some Seth Lovers

I love Seths too, and one thing that I found surprising was that it's probably the best sounding humbucker w/gain in the Duncan clips. And clean.... everyone knows it's got that down.

LOL, he's only famous in his own mind!

Re: Finally tried some Seth Lovers

There are a lot of players who, if they knew about the Seths, would have them in their guitars. That would be players of all style too. It really is a great sounding pickup and judging by the sales records Duncan keeps, one of its best kept secrets IMHO.

Re: Finally tried some Seth Lovers

just reads this post, most excellent if i may say.
im taking out a custom (caramic) for its too dark and agressive in my LP(with treble increased slightly).
i was thinkin instead of putting a cc(which could sound even darker) going the sethlover root.
what do you guys think? seths or cc(for a very bassy LP)

Everything you've said points towads this....in order of hottest to least hot.

From a Custom.......C-5, 59B, Seth Lover. All those pickups sound great in a bassheavy LP.

Re: Finally tried some Seth Lovers

I recommend the C5, I have one in my Hamer (which is heavy in the low-mids and bass) and it sounds killer.

I was thinking that also. Haven't seen Tyler in awhile. Nice to have you back. :)

How would you compare the Seth's to the Stag Mag's? I've had an on-and-off love affair with that pup. (Lovin' it now.)

Re: Finally tried some Seth Lovers

I've got Seths in bridge on the six and neck on the 12 of my 77 Gibby doubleneck. W-O-W! The six bridge is my favorite of all my guitars. Too bad the damn thing is SO HEAVY! However, the ants in my 75 LP custom sound flat out incredible.

Here's hoping the brobucker sounds as heavenly as the Seth in my 72 LP deluxe bridge (no, I didn't route it:smack: , got it that way. Still has the orig neck pu).

Re: Finally tried some Seth Lovers

The lack of potting is really scaring me away from trying that one. Just how much distortion can it take before it squeels? is it a bad squeel or is it a controllable feedback kind of squeel? does it handle really high volumes well?

I was leery at first too, but it really doesn't squeal with highgain. I suppose if you wanted it to sound a little drier and eliminate ANY possibility of squeal on superhighgain, you could give it a fast dunk in wax......just make sure the wax isn't too hot and you don't let the pickup touch the bottom of the pan.
Butyrate bobbins can't handle as much heat as the regular ones, so wait till the wax cools a bit first.

Good to see all of you guy's too.

The Stag's and the Seth's are similar in that they both have nice clairity. The Stag sounds more single coil, and the Seth's are just real full.

I am playing them through my Super and you can tweek those to almost any sound. I can get some country twang, Blues grit, or some pretty hard distortion seeing how they are not wax potted.

I thought the feedback from them being unpotted less then I feard, and controlable too.

I had a CC and a Seth and they both sound great, but I liked the Seth better. They are an awesome set to have. I have tried just about all the Duncan pups and the Seth's are in my top five.

Some pups are more subject to sounding good in certain woods but the Seth's sound great in any wood. They realy bring out what ever they are put into.

Re: Finally tried some Seth Lovers

Great post. I've also been worried about trying unpotted pups. Can you run the Seths through a Big Muff or Tonebender or do they just squeal like a stuck pig?
