Any tips on removing the usual dents, dings, scratches and swirls that are prone to appear on a guitar with a few years on it?

After hitting it with a good polish cloth and some Martin Guitar Polish I'm outta artillery to get the "goofs" out.

Re: Finish Repair

Ed Roman claims to be able to restore it to better than new, but a lot of people don't like him, and I'm not sure you're wanting to go to quite that extent. For the surface paint imperfections, you might look at some good car polish, like 3M's rubbing compound/oxidation remover. It can do wonders for a car finish, but I wouldn't get too agressive with it on a guitar. Its finish is definitely more fragile. You might try it on a cheap guitar, first. Something you wouldn't mind ruining the finish on more. I'd be interested to see if anyone has tried something like this.

pretty much my thoughts too..and whilst a few months ago i would have reccomended Ed Roman..recent mishaps with him and his company would have me suggest ask around a bit more before / if ever sending it to this guy..

sorry to go off topic but i ordered a custom body from him VERY early december..with a turn around date of very early february..mid february hit and ive made several calls to his company asking about it..they always tell me its around the corner and they'll call me to let me know..however here we are in mid april ( well over 2 months the deadline i was given ) and still no guitar..the last time i called i was told the next week it would be finished..i called back and sure enough it wasnt..persuant to our verbal agreement i asked for my money back because they were way past deadline and given me the run around.. they told me i was " stupid to think that a body could be done in two months and the best they can do is store credit " .. things are beginning to get a bit heated with me and his company :) and if it goes like i think it will we will end up in small claims court any time now :) i have sent a post office certified letter requesting a refund ..however that was a few weeks ago so i do believe he rejected the letter..i also have contacted the better business bureau and filed a complaint :)

Re: Finish Repair

3M Perfect It II rubbing compound followed by McGairs Show Car Glaze #7. As was said, take it slow with the Perfect It. You have to do both steps, the rubbing compound will leave swirl marks.

Re: Finish Repair

I get a little excited in a "mischievous little boy" kinda way when my guitars get a ding or a scratch.
