First guitar

My first was in the late 50s, a Harmony or Kay (I think) acoustic from Montgomery Wards, about $35. I've had several other acoustics since, including a really good Takamine and a VERY nice Taylor, but that first one still remains my favorite.

My first electric was in 1960, a brand new Gibson 330.

And in 1962 I got a Teisco 12 string electric. Looked very similar to Mincer's Sekova. Could they have been made in the same factory?

My first guitar was a cheap Kay acoustic in a nasty looking sunburst. I learned on it and a year later got my first electric, a cheap Strat copy - "Stinger" by Martin. I don't have either one anymore. I donated the acoustic to my high school music department when I moved out west and the electric went in the trash when I got my second electric, a Pro Player or Series 10 Jackson Dinky copy, which I don't have anymore either...LOL. I gave that away after building my first Frankenstrat, which I DO still have and is going to be 29 years-old this year.

My first was a Kay acoustic. I would write that I learned on it, but the action was so high I could barely fret it.

The first one I could comfortably play was my 1982 Fender Bullet S-3. Originally, it had 3 of the Mustang/Duosonic pickups, like the middle, and a string thru fixed bridge.

The Kahler was added in when I got my Strat and pups were replaced with a Custom and Seymorizer II. Over the years it became my test bed.

Here she is, Ibanez RX40. Not too bad, but now knowing what I do the nut is atrocious (soft plastic) and the tuners are pretty bad. Pickups are ok and the neck is slim and comfortable. I should use it to practice making a nut.

A Westone ?Spectrum III? that I picked up from a local CD shop for $100. Just like in the pic. It had the Floyd blocked, so not having a clue, popped that wood block out and it damn near jumped off the body. A post did get pulled out. Got it fixed and played on it until Dad took me to Reno's in Indy and I traded it towards the Epiphone explorer I still have. Kind of wished I kept it...

1997

My first guitar was a Gibson Blueshawk. It was *new* and the stock nut was so bad a new one had to be made and installed by a local tech.

I didnt quite realize how unacceptable it was until after I had been playing a few years.

Not a bad guitar after it I got it in shape.

Metallic blue Fender Jaguar.
Unfortunately it had many things wrong with it, to the point it was barely playable. I was only mildly upset when a "friend" borrowed it and sold it. That was followed by a clown burst Korean LP copy ($89 new in 1985) that looked great but was terrible in every way. I believe a friend/former bandmate might still have that one; he kept it for sentimental reasons & as a decorating accessory. I replaced it with a Tiesco I bought for $20 in pieces. Played that one until the neck warped (no truss rod!), then got a Vox Bulldog at a clearance auction for $42.50.
A year or two later I discovered what a difference guitar quality makes but I still have a soft spot for oddball and off-brand guitars.

Those were cool, I remember when I first start playing a idolized them because they had a big marketing push and I didn’t really realize that the Les Paul was “the” model.

My first guitar was a Vantage like this. Then I gave it away to a relative because I got a Kramer Rhoads with humbuckers. I got the Vantage in 90-91*sh and the problem was that it had single coils. Didn't know how to pay with single coils at the time.
