First new tune in year and a half...

Re: First new tune in year and a half...

cool tune
great tones
nice compositional elements
it reminds me a bit of surfing with the alien era satriani

i found myself wanting more melodic content sooner ... the rhythmic motif that starts the tune goes on for quite a while before anything melodic establishes some focus, and then only briefly before its back to the chords ...

when it comes in again at around 1:00 it is very very good and then again a bit after the 2 minute mark ...

the whole tune ended abruptly at about 2:20 for me ... is that the way it is supposed to end or is there some soundclick snafu?

what pickups are in that warmoth LP? its the least LP-sounding LP i've ever heard .. still very cool .. just unique

anyway, thanks for sharing it - keep it up!

Re: First new tune in year and a half...

Thanks for for digging it up hehehe ;)

the track should end at 2:26 - it has a pretty clear ending that you can't miss. I checked it out and it played fine. Works fine on the myspace page too.

About the tune itself - I didn't want to just do a soloing thing. I've done it before, but I'm not real good at it. I find it incredibly frustrating to record any kind of solo that goes on more than 10 seconds or so - unless I've really worked something out in advance, which is never the case these days. Anyway, I think if you listen to the tune a few times, the rhythm parts will grow on you a little bit - or not hahaha. I remember this thing had no effect on my kids at first, but after a while they were going nuts dancing to it and were requesting it every day hahaha.

At the time of that recording the bridge pickup being used was a '59/Custom5 hybrid. I didn't use the neck pickup. The lead tone is supposed to be some sort of mesa amp sound. It's mixed with a modern Marshall-ish type of tone on the rhythm parts, which are doubled. I'm not sure what the guitar sounds like. It sounds really different through a tube amp. Bass and drums were done with PCDrummer.

cool - i'll try again from home tonight - i might be getting work network garbles

cool pickup - i need to get into hybrids more

cheers

Re: First new tune in year and a half...

some great playing and guitar sounds in there (wish I could solo like that). dig the vibe. snare is very neat-o. hihat gets a bit metronomey ticky after a bit (common issue I have; might just be listening on a lap top issue; as in my laptop favors higher end stuff on recordings and makes them jump out). for what it's worth, is it the same "hit" (volume, intensity, etc.) every time or is there a bit of variation going on?

I tried a 50% to 75% percent difference on every other hit hat hit - but it's probably not enough of a variation to be noticeable enough. Meaning the hit hat hit volume is 75, 50, 75, 50 etc - this is the volume level for each hit.

I agree that it gets to be a bit annoying. Still working on these things. Thanks for the comments. :)

it's probably fine; my laptop blows. song is killer, that's all that matters really.

Thanks - but I've noticed the same problem when I listen to it. I tried to break it up a little with some different parts, some ride cymbal, etc. But it does bother me too. Could probably do with a remix.
