So, latley i've been changin pickups and experimenting with alot of possibilities to change my sound (as i cant find one ). So let me start from the beginning:

My Main Rig is: Fender Strat, Epiphone Les Paul Standard and a 1980 JMP 2203 Master Volume through 4 1979 g12-65's
------------------------------------------------------------
The Strat is a perfect instrument i love the stock Tex-Mex Pickups but i needed a hotter bridge pup so i replaced the stock Tex-Mex with a DiMarzio Super Distortion in Single coil size. I've been with this setup for about 2 yrs now but when i bought my JMP 2203 i realized i needed a lower output pickup. i just ordered a Little 59 off ebay and will be here soon. what i wanted to say about the strat is.. have any of you have experience with both the Super Distortion S and Little 59? will the little 59 elimate all the hottness and brightness of the Super Distortion s? and will it be possible to change the magnet with an Alnico 5 or even Alnico 2 in the Little 59?

The Les Paul. So this guitar had the major upgrades on pickups from all my guitars. First i had the stock pups that i changed to Seymours Alnico II Pros. Again when i bought my JMP 2203 i felt that they were too bright and tooooooooo clean. it was like a humbucker and single coil sound... so I sold the Alnico II Pros and put the stock pups in my Les Paul... I Dunno this might be kinda weird but these pup are the best pups i ever heard. they are not bright and balanced. i was happy with the bridge stock epi pup, it had richer distortion through my JMP 2203, but the neck pup was useless there i couldnt get clean sounds from it so.... (you are gonna bash me for this ) i swapped the neck pup with the bridge Tex-Mex single coil that was in my strat before and i have to say im really happy with the result. clean single coil sound on a les paul.. last week i ordered a GFS VEH pup and yesterday i installed it in the bridge, i thought it sounded too trebly, bright and clean . so i swapped the magnet that i had in my epi neck pickup and it sounded a but more tighter.
Should i try other magnets on the GFS VEH pups like an alnico 2? will it beef it up a bit? should i stick with the epi stock pup? or i should try other pickups? any ideas?

thanks guys!

First, welcome, fellow strat-lover, to the forum! I don't know too much about the SC-sized humbuckers in terms of experience, but in terms of the specs the '59 will be brighter with less output.

You put a single coil in a LP? That's something I would never have considered. How did it work? did it fit in the mounting ring? Do you have pics?

If you like your Epi pup, stick with it. Its about what sounds good to you. But, in terms of magnets for your GFS, it would help to know what was in there to start with. Alnico 2 is low output and very warm and thick.

hey.. thanks for the response.. yeah it worked fine. i love the sound of single coils so i put it in there :D. no extra stuff! just put it in like a humbucker! and you dont have problems to get good clean sounds!

i hope i like the little 59

Re: First Post.... and longest post :D

Yea, single coils sound sweet :D

If I were to choose a SC-sized HB, i'd probs go for the little 59. The sound clips sound nice.

Re: First Post.... and longest post :D

i was going to buy a lil creamin demon but then to stay on the safe part i ordered a little 59. if i see its too bright in my strat i swap the magnet

I'd like a little creamin demon too, but im 19 now, so i think i should wait till shes like 17 at least.

i have always had good experiences with the hotrails.

Re: First Post.... and longest post :D

you cannot swap magnets on the lil 59. if its too bright, make sure the tone control is active on the bridge pup. often it is not and will give a brighter tone

how loud do you play? thats a loud amp you have there.

Re: First Post.... and longest post :D

i play my JMP at home at 3.5 max, havent gigged with it yet as right now im not playin with any bands.

y cant i change magnets on the lil 59?

Re: First Post.... and longest post :D

That I know of, you can't change magnets in Lil '59s. There's a circuit board on the back of the pickup and I'd be afraid to remove it to mess with the insides much...

I have one in my one of my Strats, with two Fender American Standard SC pickups and they work well together. Doesn't sound exactly like a real '59 but gives you that same vibe.

Re: First Post.... and longest post :D

you cant change magnets because it is an integral part of the pup. its not like a full size humbucker where you can slide it out and slide a new one in.

Re: First Post.... and longest post :D

anyone have any pics of how one of these looks like when opened? i cant understand how these pups work
