Hey all, this is the first time Im posting something! This is the main, shorter, more melodic solo in a song called Derailed that my band The Nicks wrote. Its a really great song with a great chord progression but I do not have the permission to post it from them (and the female singer featured in this song) - so I cut out everything but my main solo. This song was written and recorded back in early October after we got a female singer. Me (Nick B) and one of the other Nicks, Nick T were fooling around with sweet, pink floydish chords and we decided to tie a few of them together with an A minor chord and turned it into a practical progression. This is when I got turned onto playing slide guitar. It was such a great progression to do nice melodic stuff over. So I didnt have a slide at the time, and I borrowed the singers lipstick and put the guitar on my lap (like a dobro) and had some really nice slide licks in the beginning of the song. Hopefully, Ill get permission to post the whole thing. Nick T takes two longer solos that are pretty good and just set the mood of the song. Great vocals also, some nice drum fills added in there too.

This is when I was really obsessed with the band and being in a band and being with those guys. Now, not so much. Im more into playing for the high school musical, high school jazz band, writing my own songs (outside of that band and the other 2 bands Im in) and making good solos. Yes, I keep my schedule busy! This is when I was really into the classic and hard rock. Thats the stuff I started with. Soft song, heavier solo. Back in my days of heavy picks and standard tuning. You'll get the idea of what I was after back then. I did this solo right on the spot (I think that female singer being there made me magically better) and it sounds to me like it was rehersed and thought out well. A lot of different phrases, not ending phrases on the same note. Its just interesting to me... Its my R7 straight into my Gibson GA5, problem is that it was recorded using Guitar Pro 4 with a computer mic. Dont go really on tone, go on playing really. But you can still here the power tube distortion in there. Thanks for reading and listening - I hope to post more in the future - band stuff and especially stuff of my own. Maybe I'll invest in some recording stuff and mics. Here it is:

Nice structure dude.I don't like the tone ,i think it's too saturated and has not enough sustain. But it could be the recording too ,so don't take it so serious.
The playing is great!

Re: First Posted Clip

thanks a lot dudes! - I dont play with that much distortion anymore. Of course, the computer mic gets overloaded and adds extra fuzz and distortion with the under par sound quality. And ya know I was just sitting right next to the amp and just smacked the knob and did not worry about the sweet spot or anything. Also, the preamp tube went the next day so it was lacking some tone there. Just to clear things up a little...

Re: First Posted Clip

difinately nice melody... Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed it..

and I think it will be worth getting a mic to record tracks with.

It's interesting to see that you turned into slide and blues more...

I only wish I could play that good! Nice playing, I can't wait to hear your slide and blues stuff!
