Fishman powerbridge + D-Tar Mama Bear

I picked up a used D-Tar Mama Bear really cheap last week. Always wanted to try one out. I already own a Fishman Powerbridge but just never had a chance to install it. My question is this, do I need to install the Fishman Powerchip mixer/preamp too? Or can I run the piezo signal directly into the Mama Bear? I don't plan on mixing the piezo signal with the humbuckers. Thanks for any info!

you should be able to run the piezo pup right into mama bear with good results

Let us know how it works out. The mama bear's been on my buying list for ages...

That willl be a good combination. I have used it. You don't need the Power Chip to make it work with the Mama Bear, but it's a great addition to the guitar in the event you ever want to mix them.

Thank you for the info! I saw your review Mincer and that is what pushed me over the edge to buy it. I recognized your photo holding that guitar. The Fishman bridge is going on a Les Paul style guitar. I haven't decided how I'm going to wire it yet. I was thinking about replacing the mono output jack with a stereo jack. I'd use a Y cable to split out the signal. If I don't plan on using the the piezo signal for a session, I would just plug my normal 1/4" plug into the jack. That way I wouldn't have to drill a hole for a second jack. Was also thinking about adding a volume control circuit to the under side of the control cover. I'll decide when the time comes. I will put up a youtube video when I get everything set up.

P.S. I didn't know anybody replied to this thread. I thought I would receive a notification but didn't. Hmmm.

I forgot to add, I'm going to build a new pedalboard out of 3/4" plywood and put the Mama Bear on the pedalboard. I don't kick my gear around or abuse it but I hope the unit will be OK in a "mobile" environment. It will make for one heavy pedal.

Re: Fishman powerbridge + D-Tar Mama Bear

I use a stereo jack on my guitar, and an insert cable (Y) cable to send the piezo to its own processing. You can get some pretty intense blended sounds when each pickup type has it s own signal chain. I think it is certainly worth doing.
