Fixed wah pedal... wah effect...?

I love the wah sound but I really hate the rocking-style wah foot pedals. Is there a stompbox that can do a fixed wah sound. I just want to use it as a filter.

Thanks!

Interesting question!

The thing is, that sweet spot on a wah changes a little with differant pickups and differant notes and with the weather!

What you're proposing would be cool tho...

In the meantime just tighten up the treadle/action on a stock wah so it'll stay where you put it.

The other thing you could do take the pot out of it's normal place in a stock Vox Wah and just turn it by hand until you get the effect you want. Then just tape it up and put it back in the wah wah somewhere where it won't be disturbed.

Then you'd just use the treadle part to turn the wah on and off.

are you looking or something that constantly rocks back and forth kinda sound, or jsut in one certain position, becuase if u want one that constantly rocks they make those....

Re: Fixed wah pedal... wah effect...?

I thought SRV just put his in a fixed position and used it that way sometimes - like a filter

Re: Fixed wah pedal... wah effect...?

Hendrix used his Vox in one position as a filter sometimes. At least he does on the Blue Wild Angel dvd. Page used his to boost the treble on the solo to Whole Lotta Love, IIRC.

So you could just get a Vox or Crybaby and leave it in one spot. I like Lew's moving the pot idea, too.

I'd never really do this! It was just a suggestion for making a wah wah into the "pedal" you asked about. :)

Re: Fixed wah pedal... wah effect...?

Yeah the Q-zone , (or find an old BOSS SP-1 Spectrum, the best ever for that ... :) ) Also, I know you were asking about pedals, but doesn't Chandler still market the *Tone-X* which is basically a wah circuit attached to a push/pull tone knob that fits in the guitar, pull the knob and rotate the knob just like your foot, or leave it and switch it in or out. It's basically made for what you say here. A Furman PQ-3 or PQ-4 Parametric Eq (or any full function parametric eq can get you that effect also), but that's if you were going rack. Also the old BOSS FT-2 Dynamic Filter ( can you say ebay? ) would do that, as well as the other stuff it did. Just some ideas.

Re: Fixed wah pedal... wah effect...?

Yeah! I was looking at the Danelectro French Fries Auto Wah. I do like the rockin' sound, but I don't like doing it. Does the Crybaby Q-zone have the auto effect or is it just a straight filter?

I know boss makes the AW3 or 5 or something. I'm just curious what pedal does the auto-wah effect the best. Have any of you played with one?

Re: Fixed wah pedal... wah effect...?

I believe the Q-Zone is simply the GCB Crybaby circuit in a pedal. The "Q" knob is the same as moving the foot rocker on a wah. It's not an auto-wah, it's just like leaving your wah in a fixed position.

If you're looking at auto-wah's, the Digitech XSW synth-wah has some great auto-wah settings, along with envelope filters and analog synth sounds, all of which can be triggered dynamically.
