Flat pole YJM Fury neck and middle pickups put in. Question about pickup construction

Put a new set of shop floor custom YJM Fury neck and middle pickups in my ESP LTD ST-213 today and they are awesome. I left the neck pickup out of the tone control circuit like in other guitars. My question is about the bottom of the pickups. There is some copper foil on the bottom with what looks like a ground wire soldered to it. I'm just wondering what it's for. I don't see other stacks like the S6 or S9 built this way. Anyways hers a few pics of the pickup and my guitar.

I am not sure either, but those have gotta be some great pickups. How do they sound?

They sound fantastic to me. Fuller and thicker than single coils, but not muddy and sound absolutely amazing with some OD or distortion. Now if I could just play like Yngwie...LOL!!!

You and me both!

I've got another guitar that I put two of the YJM bridge pickups in the neck/middle position with a STK-S9 in the bridge. Sounds great as the tone for the bridge pickup is really close to the neck/middle version...a little more output and a little more bite to them. Together with the S9 they sound amazing, but still have a similar problem with the YJM poles messing with string pull on the flatter radius guitar, so I may end up replacing the one in the neck with a flat pole bridge pickup. I don't use the middle all that much, so I'll leave that one alone. I REALLY REALLY wish they made the flat poles a standard option on these pickups.

Yeah, me too, but I guess that isn't what Yng wanted, so it isn't standard. I think more might be sold though, or at least work better in more modern guitars. I always buy flat poles if there is an option.

I'm thinking I'll take one of the stock neck pickups and one of the stock bridge pickups (once I get a flat pole to replace it) and modify another Squire VM '51 and have just one YJM neck and one YJM Bridge pickup in it. Replace the stock electronics with a 250k volume and tone and put in a mini 3-way switch. I've already modified one and put a set of Lil '59 pickups in it and a concentric volume/tone pot. Great playing and now a great sounding guitar also. As you can tell...even tho I play a lot of blues I like being different and not conforming to the same old things for blues players.

Wow, cool guitar, and you have a great idea for it. I dig using a non-traditional setup to play traditional music forms.

Thanks. I guess I just like being a little different. Some people are blues "purists" and say you have to use certain guitars, amps, pedals, NO pedals, etc... and I say use whatever gives you the tone you like. My current amps are a Traynor YCS50 combo, Panama Shaman amp (2 of them) along with either a 1X12 or two 1X12 cabs. My pedals are Joyo Sweet Baby OD, Joyo Ultimate OD, Joyo Crunch Distortion and a RGW Bad Bob Boost along with a Morley Mini Maverick wah. If I'm using the Panama amps I use a Zoom G3 into the effects loop for reverb, chorus (on a couple songs), and also an eq boost to give more volume for solos. I'm a little different, but why be like everyone else? :)

I get it. We get booked at a lot of blues festivals. I play my Music Mans through a Fractal AX8 straight to the PA. None of us wear bowling shirts or fedoras, either.

Re: Flat pole YJM Fury neck and middle pickups put in. Question about pickup construc

most festivals i play is guitar (whatever has the freshest strings) ->timmy->old deluxe reverb. it might be a "typical" blues setup but its what i use for almost everything. i refuse to own a fedora simply cause its such a lame blues cliche. i love seeing cool non-typical blues guitars at festivals, the strat and a hat guys drive me nuts unless they are really good, but some guy with a teisco will get my attention

Yeah, you wonder how such a rebellious art form got put in a box with very specific parameters.
