Flipping phase on a Gibson pickup

One of my Gibson 61 Zebra pups (bridge) is phase reversed (it really is, this is apparently normal) and I'd like to reverse the wiring to get a normal middle position sound.

They have four conductor cables, in both cases I have the red going to the lug, green and white together, black and bare to ground. How do I need to wire the bridge pup to flip the phase?

Re: Flipping phase on a Gibson pickup

swap red with black in one of them. The magnet has been flipped in one of the pickups

Swapped the wires and my SG sounds like it should again, thanks for the help :)

Or just flip the magnet.

I've never messed with magnets but I think I'd like to try at some point, normally I have covered pups so it's too much of a pain. These 61 Zebras are the best pups (for my sound) I've had from Gibson so I dunno, can't think of anything I'd like to change. Eventually I'll install a nickel covered SD Hotrodded HB set and the Zebras will be sitting around doing nothing, maybe I'll peel em back...

Is there any real world difference in flipping the cables vs the magnet?

Phase reversal would be entirely normal on any original or accurate re-issue of a three humbucker Gibson Les Paul or SG/Les Paul Custom. It would also be appropriate on a Peter Green style LP Standard.

Mines just the normal 2015 Special. I'm still curious, is there a tonal difference between flipping the magnet and swapping the wires?

Re: Flipping phase on a Gibson pickup

Theoretically, no.

On a guitar with multiple pickups, the magnetic fields of the pickups can and do interact. The result may or may not please the ear of the beholder. This is why some Stratocaster players cannot abide RP/RW middle pickups.

Thanks for the info.
