Floyd big block

Re: Floyd big block

any opinions on tungsten, titanium, and copper?

I'm not sure you're getting the point the other posters are trying to make. But since this post if flat out asking, I can speak I the brass and the titanium.

The brass is a little fuller and richer. The titanium is a little more transparent an will let the highs ring a little more. Both are good ways to go.

I have no experience with the tungsten, but you can read about it on the FR site and you can also call in and talk to the guys at FR about more specifics.

From what I've heard about copper, it has a scooped tone to it that might be of interest to some of the more metal tones, for example. If you are looking at copper, you might be looking at a third party vendor.

FR will not honor the warranty on the unit if you use non-FR parts. FR offers all the blocks that you are asking about.

You probably known how to measure to figure out the length you need but also check to see if you can fit a longer one in there. It's not unusual for there to be a 32mm in there where a 37mm will fit. Or a 37mm where a 42mm will fit. Personally, I'd not take it up higher than one size, providing it will fit. Also, you'll need to be sure about if you have enough clearance if you want the 1/2" brass. There are a number of guitars that will have limited travel on the FR with the 1/2" brass. The guys that you would talk to at FR can also help you with helping to identify things like that.

Hope that answers your question for the most part.

Re: Floyd big block

ok guys
I've decided to give up on the floyd
what is the difference between different strat tremolos over the years?

Besides going from vintage style 6 screw to 2 point their are not too many changes except for bent steel saddles or block saddles (like graph tech) and what the base plate material is made from.

Re: Floyd big block

yeah but is the difference between 6 to a 2?

Tuning Stability is better with the 2 point trem but some people swear by the 6 point trems since thats what they grew up playing. You can set up a 6 screw trem to be just as stable as a 2 point but it's more work.
