Its is good. I'd rather use the Schaller Licensed Floyd Rose or the GFS Heavy Duty Floyd Rose if you are on a smaller budget. But if you are rich and want the absolute indestructible floyd that WILL NOT go out of tune, there is the Titanium OFR for nearly $1000. Or there is the Floyd Rose 1000 which is the next closest thing to the Gotoh OFR and is just as good, just made in Korea instead of Germany, more pricey than the Schaller though and a bit harder to find.
Floyd Rose 1000 and Special are the same thing.
I'm curious myself, as this one G&L that I really want to get comes stock with one.
Are they at lest upgradable to "good" specs with a saddle and block change? Or is the whole thing just cheesier, and not worth upgrading? Would a better quality Floyd drop right into the stock inserts for a Floyd Special?
If you had bothered to read the link, you would see that they are not the same thing.
The 1000 is an all steel OEM trem that is built to the same spec as the German stamped unit.
The special uses cast saddles and block to lower the cost.

The link you posted doesn't even mention 1000, only the Special.

Floyd Rose makes three versions of the Floyd Rose Original Style Tremolo:•Floyd Rose OriginaL
•Floyd Rose 1000 Series
•Floyd Rose Special SeriesAll three units are produced exclusively for Floyd Rose by our Handpicked Manufacturers:The Floyd Rose Original is produced in Germany and is our flagship model.
The Floyd Rose 1000 Series is made in Korea. An excellent unit mirrored after the Original and is only available OEM.
The Floyd Rose Special Series is also made in Korea. This is our version of the licensed tremolo. This unit is well manufactured and is as good if not better than any other licensed version Floyd Rose. We also stand behind this bridge 100%.
I have seen that site many times. The 1000/ Special is definitely not made by Schaller (which by the way manufactures OFR as well as their own licensed Floyds). The 1000/ Special is made in Korea (by Ping or something) and the saddles are not steel, but zinc. That's why the 1000 is found in mid-priced guitars.
