Floyd Rose swap question... input needed.

Hey guys and gals,

So my plans for the 7 I bought recently fell thru. I wound up bringing the guitar back because I just couldn't get jiggy with it. For a little while I wanted an Ibanez RG350MDX in black, but I had found a Jackson I rather liked. And it's surprising for me, because there really hasn't been a Jackson that appealed to me for more than a decade - and I had nothing but problems with the 2 I had years ago before I got my first 7-string. So my newly found love and wanting a Jackson after all this time is a bit odd to me.

So when I brought it back, I looked around during for the guitar I initially wanted - the Jackson JS32 DKA-M in black. But I had also spotted another guitar that I wanted to try in comparison, a Jackson Soloist SLX. While I do like both exceptionally well, I am leaning more towards the SLX. Mainly because it feels like a much more solid axe, and feels and plays superbly. Not that the DKA-M doesn't, but the Soloist just has a much better feel - not to mention looks absolutely killer appeal to it.

So this is where my question come into play... The Soloist has a Floyd Rose Special tremolo on it, but I want to swap it out for a Floyd Rose 1000 Series Pro, which is a low profile version. I noticed that the post position measurements are the same, but I am trying to check the rest of the measurements to make sure it will fit... Has anyone else made the swap from an original to a low profile Floyd? If so, any mods needed to be made, or was it a direct swap???

If I am going to have a trem- equipped guitar again, I want one with a trem I like the most and most comfortable with. So thank in advance!

The original series Pro needs a different route for sure. I recommend staying within the OFR footprint and saving yourself the hassle.

Re: Floyd Rose swap question... input needed.

From what I cross referenced the measurements via FR'S diagrams, the 1000 Series Pro is actually a little bit smaller/shorter than the Special/OFR. So I am not thinking it would be the top route itself, but maybe where the block is underneath the baseplate, that route???

And the reason why I want to swap is because I don't like how a standard OFR feels when I play on one... I am so used to a Lo-Pro Edge or similar low profile tremolo, that a standard OFR feels too cramped on my hand. So if it is the area of the block a days it either needs routing or an L- shaped block, I would gladly for the trem I feel most comfortable with and play on.

Why hadn't you just bought an Ibanez then?

Otherwise, tweak the strap a bit here and there and give yourself time to adjust. The Floyd's whale tail is not an arm rest anyway so I'm afraid you're now trying to invent a non existing problem. Myself, I've learned the ropes on a Lo Pro Edge and now I play OFRs, Schallers, Gotohs 1996T, Edge Original, Graphtech LB63 and a Kahler Spyder with zero issues, so perhaps you can switch just as easily?

It's all in your mind, really.
