Floyd Roses + Compound Radii Q...

A standard feature on warmoth's Standard Contstruction necks is a 10"-16" compund radius. I'm well familiar with the concept of it... but my question is as follows:

I'm preferring to use an Original Floyd Rose trem for the bridge of this guitar I'm planning. Its always been my understanding that floyds are not height-adjustable by individual string, and that the overall height of a pre-radiused curve built into the bridge is adjusted by raising or lowering the pivot posts. (whew! catch all that? )

So if i get a neck with a compound radius from a 10"-16" and then use a pre-radiused Floyd is that gonna mess up the action on the upper registers of the guitar?

It SHOULD work anyway, particularly if you grab your Floyd from Warmoth as well. If the radius is too far off, either grind the saddles to match or use shims (Available from www.stewmac.com and www.allparts.com)

The Floyd that came with my Warmoth did not have a flat enough radius (you need a radius around 20 degrees for a Warmoth compound radius neck). The Floyd already had a shim preinstalled, and the saddles were not uniform heights (I believe the middle two were slightly taller).

"The Key" intonation tool I had bought came with some shims, so I used those. Unfortunately, Stewmac doesn't seem to carry it anymore. I'm sure tin foil will work fine. Either way, it's going to a take a lot of trial and error.

I have a warmoth 24 3/4 neck & an orig. floyd. I took the 2 shims out from under the 2 middle saddles on my floyd. It's fine that way for me & my action is lower than midgets t1ts.

Yea the saddle heights are adjustable as these guys said using shims, but what I don't understand is , If the Warmoth neck has 2 differnt radius's (SP) on it, which radius do you set the Floyd up for?

I'm not familiar with the Warmoth necks.

I believe the Floyd locking nuts are available for both 10 and 15 inch radiuses. So you would get the 10" radius locking nut, but adjust the saddles to match the 16 inch radius. You might be able to get a Floyd with a 10" locking nut radius and a 15" saddle radius.

I set up a friends warmoth and here is how it is done, you want a 10 inch radius at the nut and you want a about a 20 inch radius at the saddles. Though one can get away with a 15 at the saddles. A 20 will work the best though.
