Floyd saddle question w/ pics.

I just have a question about a cracked saddle I have on the high e string. It first had a crack in it for quite a long time and I couldn't get the guitar to stay in tune that well. Would this effect the tuning even though the string is clamped down tight? Here's a pic of it at first.

I have now blocked the bridge for a few months. Well, yesterday I was changing strings and clamping the string tight with the allan key and it totally cracked the saddle. It completely split in 2. Here's the pic.

It is a Schaller and I read everywhere about the great quality. It is a Washburn Schaller, however, and that might be the reason that it seems like it's chrome covering a cheap, brittle metal underneath. What's the best place to get a replacement and will it need to be a Schaller one? Also, does it matter if the metal is different? It would actually be better to get a solid steel replacement. I hope with a new saddle it will fix any tuning issues I had even when the saddle was only slightle cracked. Great guitar besides how they put cheapo Floyds on.

Re: Floyd saddle question w/ pics.

the saddle cracking in the back is the first sign of overtightening the locking screw, and usually is already cause for a new saddle. the saddle BREAKING where it did is a DEFINITE sign of overtightening....

Stewmac or any other place that sells Scahller saddles will be able to fix you up..... I may even have a used one myself, I´ll have to look...

For future reference: use the long end of the wrench only for loosening, the short end for tightening... problem solved.

Well, how tight did you clamp it down? Overtightening (a common occurance with Floyd users), regardless of what model Floyd Rose will eventually crack the saddle.

Remember, Floyds are machined/cast parts so they do not need to be overly tightened to be snug.

Although is that a Washburn N2? I've heard other stories of cracked saddles on that same model of guitar. Might have been the owners fault though...
The saddle was like that when I bought the guitar and it's an N4, that's why I think it should come with an OFR.

Thanks for the help Zerb. At the allparts website it has low medium and high versions for the Schaller saddles. I'm assuming that I will need the low chrome version since it's my high E saddle that's damaged?
