Foot switchable effects loop and low watts?

I have mostly played Line6 amps my whole guitar playing life. I got a traditional amp about two years ago and I’ve been building up my pedalboard to a point I’m pretty darn happy. However. I’m ready to upgrade my amp and I’d like a lower wattage (but for Rock/Metal)

I’d really like to be able to have the effects loop engaged on the clean channel and off for the second channel so when I flip to Clean I can minimize the tap dancing.

This is likely just life of a guitarist with pedals but it seems like this ability doesn’t exist on the many lower wattage amps coming out these days.

Am I missing anything obvious?

Hmm, I see. I figured the Mesa Mini Recto and MK Five 25W would, but I see they don’t.

Yeah! All those amps I think I’d love to have... just seeing if there is anything with EVERYTHING I want.

The 1st generation of the Fender Supersonics had a fantastic tube drive switchable loop so does any one know if it carried over to the 22 watt version? That would be the only one I can think of that might have this right off.

That is as long as Carvin is not coming back with the amps as the Mini V-3 has an assignable loop I believe.

What about a head with a great clean sound, then an AB pedal, switching between loop A that has all of your clean channel effects in, and loop B that has an "amp in a box" preamp-type pedal for dirt?

Or something like the small H&K heads might have midi switching?

yes the SS22 has a foot-switchable fx loop but it's not tube
also it's not assignable to a channel so you'd still be having to stomp two buttons to just have fx on the clean channel.

since you want the cleaner sounds to be effected though you could use a volume pedal or EQ pedal set to volume cut in the loop to clean up the dirt channel and sort of treat it like a one channel amp. Your gain sound will be the full guitar signal with no fx, hit the fx loop and your volume drops right before the power amp and if you back off the guitar vol at the same time you'll be pretty clean and have your FX

You might be able to do something like using a Boss Line Selector in the loop.

The Mesa Mark IV can assign the loop to a specific channel, but other than that, you're probably talking MIDI. I am no expert at MIDI; the only amps I know doing MIDI at the moment are the Mesa Petrucci 2C+ signature and the new Triple Crowns. Neither are low-powered or cheap.

I'm sure there are others. Complicated is never cheap.

I agree with Boss Line Selector / AB-box option. Low wattage amps are often budget ones, too, which cuts down features. And many of them also leave fx-loop out altogether.

This is probably the best option. I use somewhat similar rig, and actually greatly prefer it over 2-channels. Because it allows dynamic control of gain instead of on/off switching.
