...for a thousand bucks?

In terms of bang for the buck, Gibson SG or Schecter KM-6?
I have always wanted an SG since I could remember, big Iommi fan.
The KM-6 is also something that is my style.

Re: ...for a thousand bucks?

Well, it depends on what you plan on doing with it.

For me? I want both. LOL

With my current band an SG with some medium output pickups would fit best.

The KM-6 just makes me drool, though.

Re: ...for a thousand bucks?

If the choice is between a USA guitar and an import for the same price, I would lean towards the USA model, but then that depends on the features of each one, and their relevance to my needs. The KM-6 seems overpriced for a fixed-bridge with one knob IMO, while the SG offers more tonal versatility/control.

However, I will say the SGs I've had were all neck-heavy. Grippy straps and such transfer the downward pull to your shoulder, and do not counter the design flaw that causes the problem.
But, there's that SG tone that matches so many familiar tracks, from AC/DC to Judas Priest to Black Sabbath, to name a few.

Then you have the scale differences between each choice, if any, as well as general neck dimensions (profile thickness and board radius, which affects playing comfort and playability).

Re: ...for a thousand bucks?

I would choose a brand new Ibanez Prestige for that kind of cash. Top-notch hardware, DiMarzios, plush hard shell case. What more could you ask?

Customer service, reliability, durability, smooth fret ends. That'd be a nice start.

Re: ...for a thousand bucks?

Or for $800 you could get a Jackson Pro Series Monarkh SC with SD Blackouts, 22 frets, set neck, stopbar/TOM, in various choices of finish :D

It balances better than the SG, though it could be better IMO.

Re: ...for a thousand bucks?

Score a deal on either one used and let somebody else take the depreciation hit, which will be much greater with the Schecter.

I already have an Epiphone custom vintage sunburst so not really interested in another LP looking axe. BTW, the Epiphone exceeded my expectations, very well built product.

Re: ...for a thousand bucks?

On any finish other than a white SG/LP Custom, that off-white plastic looks terrible.

Re: ...for a thousand bucks?

That's quite a span from one guitar to the other. They are so different that your choice should immediately be clear. If it isn't, then don't buy either of them.

I agree. Unless, you know that you really want both and are just trying to decide which one goes first.

You make a very good point! I need to ponder on this as it is not clear at the moment.
