I guess the time has finally come to sell my beloved EVH 5150 III. I bought the amp new and have had it for about two and a half years. Remarkably, I've never gigged it. I've played it at home and for the most part its gotten me the sounds I've wanted.
Channel 1) Call me crazy, but Channel 1 is my favorite channel on the amp. By adjusting how much gain is being fed into the amp, a lot of different tones can be achieved. It can get fender clean tones at low gain settings. Then when you dime the gain, it sounds just like an old Marshall plexi. Channel 1 is great for pedals too. So, if you want to rock out on your favorite stompbox, the 5153 will be a pleasure to use.
Channel 2) Channel 2 is a high gain channel that picks up where the plexi sound on Channel 1 leaves off. It sounds like its a cross between a Soldano SLO OD channel and a Bogner Ecstasy blue. It has scooped mids and is Eddie's sound from the Sammy Hagar era.
3) Channel 3 is an over the top channel with tons of gain on tap. I have 3 main settings I use on the amp. In one, I get have it voiced for smooth leads. In another, I have it voiced like a Rectifier. In my third setting I throw an EQ into the fx loop and the amp sounds like Dokken's Mr. Scary.
My EVH5150 III is in fantastic shape. The white tolex is perfect condition as is the included MIDI footswitch. One feature that I find useful is that the fx loop can be accessed on the footswitch and turned on and off. I find it useful because I run and EQ, volume pedal and chorus/ delay into it into it. By leaving the fx on and turning the loop on and off, via the footswitch, I can get a lot of different tones out of the amp.
I'm looking for $1375 shipped in the continental USA. The amps comes with a power cable, the MIDI footswitch and the owners manual.
I'm primarily looking to sell the amp. The only trades I'd accept would be a Diezel VH4, CAE/ Suhr OD100 SE+ or H&K Triamp MKII, Soldano Decatone
