It being Monday now (where I am), I just sold the first really awesome electric guitar I ever owned

My bad photography does not do it justice as to how beautiful that Brian Moore Guitars I12000 series is (obviously the red/orange quilted guitar).
I still remember the day I brought the guitar home, and compared it to my strat copy and just thinking how amazing the playability was and how amazing the tone was compared to my crappy strat copy.

I loved the guitar so much, but in the end, I felt limited with 6 strings and 22 frets.
I wanted a guitar with more range, a guitar that would let me play songs written in lower tunings without needing to retune and yet I wanted to still play all the stuff I used to play on a guitar tuned to E standard and unfortunately, the BMG I12000 was not cutting it for that, so I ended up barely playing it when I got my first 7 string guitar.

As I said, I loved her dearly, played her often and was always so impressed by the feel and playability and the incredibly workmanship that went into the guitar. If the guitar were made in the USA, it would have been incredible, but the fact a South Korean guitar could be made to such a high quality was mind blowing.
It came from the factory with almost no flaws at all.

In a way, it's like saying to a friend "We can still be friends, but can't hang out so much anymore", since I ended up selling it to one of my best friends (who also bought my strat copy at the end of 2006), and part of me is a little sad about the sale.
My mate was in a bit of a musical rut and being stuck with a guitar that was crap to play and had bad tone made him barely want to practice anymore.

In a way, I'm happy to see the guitar go to someone who will love it and care for it as much as I did. He even told me the day he bought it, he already felt inspired to just start practicing regularly again now that he had in his possession a very fine, professional level instrument.
Lastly, to be honest, I'm not a collector, so if an instrument doesn't get played, it's too hard to justify keeping it when someone else who would want to play it so badly and otherwise couldn't afford it brand new but can afford it at the price I'm selling it for wants it so badly.

So that's my story.

How about you guys?
Anything to add to my story? Questions? Comments?
Or even got your own tale about the first electric guitar you truly fell in love with but in the end for some reason or another had to sell?
I'd love to hear what you've got to say:)

I have never regretted it.

It had a Floyd Rose on it!!! :nana:

(Every time I put my hand on the bridge....yup..out 'o tune....)

BTW: That Brian Moore is a killer guitar. I hope you don't regret that one down the road...

Re: For those who sold their first amazing electric guitar how did you feel about it?

I was going to say that you're a tone-whore........but you gave a good guitar to a good home......sad, yet satifying.

My 72 tele. Every ex gf's always says to me 'you love that guitar more then me'...one of them i nearly married!

Re: For those who sold their first amazing electric guitar how did you feel about it?

The only guitars I have gotten rid of are a crappy Epi LP Special and a Squier Strat. Wasn't sad to see either of them go.

Re: For those who sold their first amazing electric guitar how did you feel about it?

I had worn it out, . . . didn't feel THAT bad for letting her go as I used the money to buy a new Jackson RR . . . bitterSWEET!

Re: For those who sold their first amazing electric guitar how did you feel about it?

I had a '96 Gibson SG Special in rare white that I sold several years ago.........I wish I still had it.

I just traded it, was a Carvin Bolt-T for a Reverend Manta-Ray HB, I was sad at first, however, after playing the Reverend for the second time live this week, I am happy with the trade....

I wish I had never sold my uncles old 1960's Mosrite that I bought from him for $500. At least I have my Baruke acoustic to show for it.

'69 LP Goldtop. I had changed out the mini humbuckers, which sucked, for full sized humbuckers. Sold it for tuition one semester. Still wish I had it. Also sold a '67 SG Standard for tuition. Loved that one too.

Got rid of my first guitar... a BC Rich Bronze warlock. Still have the guitar i played my first gigs on, that one holds some sentimental value

Re: For those who sold their first amazing electric guitar how did you feel about it?

Mine was a Late 80s/Early 90s Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Cherry Sunburst...while a fun guitar...it wasn't the "Gibson" that I wanted and I got into Strats and wound up trading it for a Squier MIJ Strat which I hotrodded w/a Warmoth Neck and Duncans.

Never really felt bad about getting rid of ANY guitar as it was always a "trade up" situation or out of financial necessity.

Besides...I'm very happy to have retained the ones I have...

It's a killer guitar, and trust me man, if I were still a primarily six string guitarist and I didn't have GAS for other 7 strings I would keep her, but I face the unfortunate reality of just not having that kind of money to be able to keep it and also get guitars I know I will use often

Definitely man.
I spoke to my mate again today, he played it for 2 hours last night already and he told me it's just been inspiring him to write music which is quite awesome and heart warming to hear because he hasn't done that in 2 years now.

Re: For those who sold their first amazing electric guitar how did you feel about it?

Most of the guitars I've sold/traded away were the more entry level ones I played when I was younger. But a couple were really nice.
My MIJ Fender Strat 12. Thinking about it now, that was a really cool guitar. I wonder if the friend I sold it to still has it. But I wasn't down with the tone. It always sounded quite spikey. My Carvin AE-185 12 string is working out much better.

My Carvin SC90. I traded it away when a local GC had a used Hamer that I really, really wanted. Again, the only reason I brought myself to offer it up for trade is I wasn't perfectly happy with the tone. It was an amazing player. Reviews for the SC90 that I'd read said it sounded kind of stiff. I thought alder body wings would cure that, so I ordered mine with an ebony board, maple neck and alder body wings. It was nice and edgy in the mids, but pretty thin in the low end. Looking back, a Blues Trembucker would have fixed the problem. Wish I'd known... but then I probably wouldn't now be the owner of that Hamer, which I love.

I have sold lots of good guitars but the great ones tend to hang out...here is the first really great guitar I ever owned.

Re: For those who sold their first amazing electric guitar how did you feel about it?

I really feel bad about having sold my amp! it was a 1981 marshall jcm800 100w combo (rebuild for 100w) and it was just awesome. wasn't stock at all, and I got a good deal when selling, but that tone... I don't think any amp could replace that tone!

Re: For those who sold their first amazing electric guitar how did you feel about it?

My 1982 made in the U.S.A. Epiphone SG special made by Gibson in their Kalamazoo plant. I regret selling it to this day. This was a very rare epiphone unknown to me at the time. It had 2 humbuckers and a Schaller wrap-around bridge/tailpiece. bought as a 13th birthday present and sold when I needed money when I was 18. I've only seen one other in person 2 years ago that was spray painted yellow, beat to hell and I wasn't about to pay $750 for it!

Anyway, unless you absolutely HATE the guitar you have, don't sell it, I'm sure you'll end up regretting it...........
