Found a JCM800 with 4 inputs!

I was trolling the local GC (against my better judgement, I might add) and I came across this in the used section... a 4-input JCM800!

I've never seen one of these before... had 4 EL34s in the back and the standard complement of pre tubes - looked totally stock (!), which was good because I hate finding a nice old Marshall that's been modded to hell and back by some joker with a soldering gun. It sounded like a JMP, though, not an 800 or a 2203/4 type. Interesting as I thought the "1959" model on the back was normally reserved for Plexis.

Anyone else have any experience with these?

Re: Found a JCM800 with 4 inputs!

The earliest JCM800's are basically just different-looking Plexi's and that looks like what you have there.

Must be from 84 or earlier. I have a friend with a 50w from the same era that he really wants me to buy... I should probably do that...

Re: Found a JCM800 with 4 inputs!

The JMP 2203 and 2204 Master Volume series preceeded the JCM800 series. Those have the 2 vertical inputs like early 800's. Never heard of a 4 input 800. Some type of reissue deal they had in the 80's maybe?

Re: Found a JCM800 with 4 inputs!

They are not reissues. Marshall kept making all the 19xx
Models along with the MV amps, they just did not get the attention because of the new shiny 2203/4.

The RI 1959slp is apparently a 800 series circuit with a few tweaks.

IME, the NMV 800s sound much better than the MV amps, but I am biased.

Re: Found a JCM800 with 4 inputs!

Yeah this is nothing more than a 1959 JCM800... no so common but not really rare.. they were made concurrently with the 2203/4 master volume amps we are all familiar with. The model 1959 doenst mean plexi just means 100 watt non master volume.

its a cool find :bigthumb:

Re: Found a JCM800 with 4 inputs!

thats a badass (albeit loud) amp man! in good working order, cranked up, it will give you classic marshall roar.

my first amp was a peavey bandit 112. it was a great first amp but i wanted something cooler. i found one of those and a 2210. i soo wanted to get the mkII cause it looked the the amps that the british blues rock guys and the allman bros had but when i tried to fire it up in the store it was very clean and bright. so i turned it up and it got a little fatter and started to break up, so i pinned the volume and it was awesome!!! for like three seconds till the clerk ran over and turned off the power. i ended up with the 2210 half stack which was probably a better choice but ive always loved those 100w 4 hole jcm800's
