Frailin Steel Pole for Tele?

25's Nemesis
After reading StratDeluxer's thread about the Fralin Steel Pole for strat, I got to wondering about how a Steel pole set, specifically a Steel pole 7k in the neck and a Steel pole 43 (10k) would sound in an ash tele. I currently have a SM-1 mini at the neck and a JD at the bridge. How would the Frailin set be diffrent from what I have now? I'm assuming it'll be thicker with more output. Am I right?

Thanks for the info, y'all. :burnout:

Better get Lew in on this one. He about the most knowledgable on Fralins that I've seen on this board.

yeah, Lew should be able to help

I think he's still on hiatus, though

Re: Frailin Steel Pole for Tele?

Hi Guys, I've used a complete set of SP42's in a Strat and I use the SP43 bridge pickup in one of my favorite Strats with 3% underwound neck and middle Fralin Vintage Hots.

My feeling about the SP43 is that, like John, it's possibly my favorite Strat/Tele size higher output bridge pickup I've ever used...very much like putting a nice P-90 in your guitar.

I'd think the SP-43 Tele bridge pickup would be a killer too!

I haven't tried the Tele neck SP-43...or Sp-43. I've only used them in Strats.

I didn't really care for the SP's as Strat neck and middle pickups...even the more lightly wound SP42's. Just not enough sparkle and chime for my tastes.

If you want some higher output Tele pickups, I'd go for the Duncan Custom Shop Tapped Tele bridge and Tele ala Strat neck pickup. That's what I'm using in my Tele and I could be happier. Just awesome tone!

Thanks for the info Lew.

How would the Duncan CS Tapped tele lead compare to the Jerry Donahue I have in my tele now?

You are welcome! :) The Tapped Tele vintage tap sounds brighter and clearer than your JD and sort of like an Antiquity I Tele bridge pickup. The Hot output is almost 10K, hotter and not as bright as your JD. So the JD is right between the two outputs of the CS Tapped Tele.

Through my warmer sounding 50's tweed Fender Deluxe amps, the hot output of the Tapped Tele is a little to dark for my tastes. But through my blackface Fenders and Marshall it's just killer.
