Fralin dissapointment

I love the Fralins in my Fenders, but i am rather dissapointed with them in my R9. The bridge is very bright and is accentuates the high E string in a very irritating way. I shouldn't have to turn down the treble on my Twin to the same levels that I do with my Tele's. May have to go with Goodwoods.

That's the same thing I thought when I bought a Fralin set years ago. I think mine was closer to 8.5/7.5 though. I loved the neck pickup, but the bridge was way too bright. No more Fralin humbuckers for me.

IMO, the best Fralin humbucker set is the 7.5K neck and 9.5K bridge.

But Lindy doesn't offer it as a standard set.

7.5K gives a clear articulate neck pickup tone and 9.5K is a little overwound and gives slightly thicker and warmer tone than the 8.5K or 9K.

The high E string has that ice pick to the eardrum sound in spades. I have to turn the treble down too much and it muddies the bridge big time.

Adjust the polepiece into the body of the pickup so it's further from the string....that should help.

The Fralins are not inherantly ice pick bright...although the way you play, your guitar itself and the way you have the pickup adjusted could be giving you that kind of tone.

They're terrific pickups...but maybe you don't like that kind of articulate tone. That much detail makes some players uncomfortable.

I loved the articulate tone of the 7.5K Fralin neck bucker for quite a long time...then I went back to the warmer tone of Duncan alnico 2 Seths, Antiquitys and Pearly Gates. Feels more comfortable and familiar to me.
