Franklin (Lightning) Question

Okay, focus group members, come to attention...

There is a schematic floating out there that adds a "Cut" control to the Matchless Lightning circuit.

I'm definitely going to try it soon to see how it sounds, but my question is

"is a cut control a desireable feature to a lot of you?"

Thanks,

Scott

Beer and Donuts follow the discussion.

Re: Franklin (Lightning) Question

high freq's, similar to what vox has done over the years. like an anti-presence control? hey, I like that. Anti-presence! :)

Re: Franklin (Lightning) Question

I think it would be useful. I like being able to cut back the top end sometimes.

Re: Franklin (Lightning) Question

since I haven't owned a Matchless, you can take this FWIW, but I've heard the Matchless cut control is pretty effective.

Re: Franklin (Lightning) Question

i love the cut control on Voxes, so if it is similar (as you said it is), then yes, i'd love to have it

Re: Franklin (Lightning) Question

I'm going to have the faceplate recut to accomodate it. Then I'll report back on how well it works. Looks pretty simple.

...did I miss the beer and donuts?

Re: Franklin (Lightning) Question

You should have it screened on the face plate as: Anti-Presence!

Complete with exclamation point.

Re: Franklin (Lightning) Question

My Dr. Z has a cut control and with the Tele (especially) you can really do some tone shaping with that one little knob.

+1

The cut knobs allow for a lot of tonal variation IMO.

We have the same amp, and I also find the cut control to be effective. Not earth-shattering, but effective. To each their own...

Re: Franklin (Lightning) Question

Question: how is it different from turning the presence down?

Second question: where are my donuts?

Re: Franklin (Lightning) Question

If that's the same Cut control as on my Matchless SC-30 it's very useful in that circuit. It's part of the tone shaping circuit and a needed part of the pre-amp for that particular circuit.

I don't know what the deal is, but the cut knob seems to operate differntly than a presence, although both really help you hone your tone....hehe, hone your tone.

But, the cut control is tied into the master volume and the phase inverter area of the circuit in the DC30. Same with adding it to the Lightning. I'm definitely going to do it just to see how I like it.

It's how you adjust the tone on that channel of my SC-30 and that's my favorite channel on the SC-30 so I guess that means: "YES! GO FOR IT!" :laugh2:
