Fred and Paf Pro in the same guitar help

Simple question who goes where, and why? I've used mostly SD pickups in the past, so my knowledge of Dimarzios is very limited. They are going into an old Yamaha with I'm guessing is a basswood body, pickguard and a Floyd trem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would do the fred in the bridge. Its gonna be the most aggresive sounding of the two.

Yep, FRED in the bridge for sure. Satriani used the PAF Pro (neck)/FRED (bridge) setup for years. Those are great pickups! Have fun!

I tried both postions for each and suprisingly the fred is a amazing neck p'u!:fing2:
I liked it there with the pro in the bridge:burnout:

+1. Highest ohms goes in the bridge. I use 250K's with my Fred. I have it paired with a Bluesbuecker with an A3 in it (who on earth thought of putting a ceramic in a hot neck HB and calling it a blues PU?). I had to dial down the output and add clarity. But, Fred's are good PU's, and there's just not much available in medium-output HB's.

Re: Fred and Paf Pro in the same guitar help

I love the Fred in the neck, but if those were my choices I'd probably roll with it in the bridge.

Fred bridge, PAF Pro in the neck. That's what Joe Satriani does.
