Re: FRED Under High Gain - New Song

Sick riffs and sick songs! You just came up with that? Sheeze, that's just plain awesome, Jeff :)

Re: FRED Under High Gain - New Song

Cool riffing. I think the tone works fine. By the time you get some bass guitar on that it'll fill out and your guitar will still cut well.

If you want serious beef, put the FRED in the neck.

Re: FRED Under High Gain - New Song

I quite liked the tone, but I do understand how it might not be to your liking. Nice riffs etc., keep up the good work!

Re: FRED Under High Gain - New Song

Thanks guys. I ended up putting hte EMG85 back in last night... the FRED just didn't have the nice tight, punchy, compressed sound that I love about EMG's.

****ING HAILS UNHOLY JEFF
I liked the tone
i iked the pickup´s mids.. the highs.. on this clips, sounds a little "shhshshshsh" but it is good.. i SUPPOSE THE BASS IS TIGHT, isn´t it?
or at least tightier than the CC bass.
but i can fell the lack of Bass headroom and power that this pickup suffer for metal stuff.
am i right or wrong? correct me if i´m wrong.

Re: FRED Under High Gain - New Song

It seems like you guys aren't understanding me, besides WFD. I don't think it has weak or not enough highs, I think it has a tad too much and that they're too brittle.

The pickup does have tight bass, but it just isnt punchy or compressed enough for metal. I also ended up not option for a TZ, as I've heard it'll sound really muddy in a mahogany set neck hardtail.

SGS, do you have the Metal
pack? I only use the metal pack amps. :(

Re: FRED Under High Gain - New Song

Maybe I'm outta line here, but there's one thing that feels lacking in all your clips, to me... the bass drum. Everything else ranged from good to plain awesome... but the bass drum seems a little... pathetic? Sounds more like a tap-dancer than a bass drum to my ears. Sorry if it comes across as insulting, just wanted to point it out. Nice work though.

I hear what you mean about the highs. They seem a little too present, and a little too whispy, perhaps.

Nah you're not out of line, I hear what you mean, but I don't like huge kicks, especially under a lot of double bass. It ends up sounding muddy to me, so I mix in the sounds with a bunch of click.

Fair enough, everything's taste in music. Nice work, anyway :beerchug:

Re: FRED Under High Gain - New Song

Cool stuff!

If I have one suggestion, it's that the solo felt a bit disjointed, like a series of licks that were punched in one after another. Right now there's no story there, more a distinct series of widdles. Try and put together longer takes and the licks will flow together better and sound more like music and less like practice.

To be fair, I hear this in a lot of pro metal players, that shadows fall guy for example. So maybe it's the current fashion. Either way, you're playing great.

Haha that's insane you noticed that with it so low in the mix... I just wanted a quick way to demonstrate the lead tone of the two. It actually is pieced together from 4 different takes of improves over it. I need to work on how I write my leads though, you're right.
