FREE PLUGIN ALERT -- Slate Digital content (clip inside)

Darkness on the edge of Tone
With the release of the new Slate Digital Virtual Mix Rack (which looks like a STEAL at $150), they have also released the FREE enhancement/colour/saturation plugin called Revival. I played with it a bit tonight and it's pretty impressive. As I am using Waves NLS as the last insert on all of my bus tracks, Revival does not work on everything I tried it, but it did add some really nice weight to the drum bus as well as increasing the width of the electric guitar tracks.

You need an iLok2 and the current version of the iLok license manager running on your machine, as well as about 2GB of free space in total, but for the price it's certainly worth a try.

Here's a little piece of a mix I used Revival on for the vocals, drums and rhythm guitar:

Cool, I love tape saturation plugins

It's not really tape saturation; more like a nonlinear transformer/character with some exciter type of technology going on, but unlike the BBE or Aphex units doesn't totally screw up the phase. On a few tracks I'm running tape saturation, NLS, and Revival; they all bring different things to the party!
