Fret Buzz in Drop A

On my Ibanez I got my guitar technician to set it up in drop a with 12-74 nyxl and after a few days of playing the low A and low E are buzzing in between 5th-22nd frets however all the other frets on the other strings are clear and fine

Sounds like your tech didn't do a good job.
Avoid doing any adjustments and take it back to him.

On the low A it's okay between the the first and seventh fret
On the low E it's okay between the first and fifth fret
Everything else doesn't buzz
The truss rod is concave and it's still buzzing on the frets stated

Re: Fret Buzz in Drop A

That is some low fricking action.... Low A would be pretty floppy anyway. Suggest raising the string just a hair?
ALSO - is this buzz coming through the amp, or merely audible when playing unplugged?

The buzz is noticeable while being plugged in and unplugged, how do I raise the action anymore?
I've adjusted the truss rod to raise the action and it hasn't helped much

Before you start twisting bolts, I suggest you read and devour all the "Tech" articles in Ibanezrules.com , but particularly this one:

http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/action.htm

The truss rod is not for action adjustment, even though it does influence things a bit.

I learned so much from that old-ass website it's not even funny. It's a great resource for tinkerers like you and me.

Re: Fret Buzz in Drop A

After a chat with my tech he said the saddle on the Gibraltar can be adjusted using a 1mm Allen key and I've raised the individual saddles and the issue appears to be fixed

Has about 2mm spacing at the 12th fret and is at the perfect amount of tension without buzz

I still find kinda crazy that you use a .72 for Drop A.
I tried a .60 twice for that task - a bit wobbly and loose in my Ibanez but just right in my Jackson.

I still went with a .54 in the end and I can deal with it.

I use a 74 for drop A and drop B since my calluses are pretty thick and I like having to fight with the bends on the bass strings and I use lighter strings on the treble just so bending and vibrato is a lot easier
My gauge preferences:
Standard/ Drop D/ D standard 10-52
Drop C#/ Drop C/ C standard 10-60
Drop B/ B standard/ Drop A 12-74
Using a thick gauge like that also means i can get that minimum level tension on a 24.75", a 25" or a 25.5" scale length

Re: Fret Buzz in Drop A

Setups are such a personal thing really. It can work fine for one player/tech and be buzzy for the next at a given action or relief setting.
