Is one better than another? I'm going to change strings tomorrow, and I figure I'll pick some up before I do it, but I'd like to know exactly what I'm doing first.
I use old english lemon oil to clean fretboards. Never had a problem, but some people claim it actually dries out your fretboard. Never seen that happen and I oiled my epiphone's fretboard fairly liberally every 4 or 5 months (dry climate), and never had any problems. it's cheap stuff, too. I've had the same bottle for 2 years and have barely used an eighth of it.
Best stuff on the market is Fret Doctor. You won't find it locally though.
youre mot supposed to oil maple
dunlop lemon works fine
Yeah, that works great too. Funny how a gallon of either mineral oil or linseed oil costs so little and yet some folks swear by the pricey little bottles with fancy labels and brands.Been using mineral oil from the local drugstore on my ebony boards for as long as I can remember.
Whatever works for you bro.Try Fret Dr. once and you won't say that anymore. IMO $13 for a bottle that lasts you 3 years isn't expensive. I have tried all these other things and they simply don't work as well. They will dry out again in a week. I did this neck last week.
