Friedman Jerry Cantrell 20w

Re: Friedman Jerry Cantrell 20w

Sounds awesome!

Are there any companies that produce similar-sounding amps at a preferably lower price point?
That tight, punchy, vintage-y but saturated and thick modded Marshall tone?
Probably asking for too much.

Re: Friedman Jerry Cantrell 20w

That’s the kind of tone that I wish was a person I could marry my only daughter to. Friedman is an incredible company.

Judging by the name of his amps, I'm not sure Mr. Friedman is someone I would want hanging around my daughter (I don't have a daughter, jus' sayin')

But yes, from everything I hear, his amps do sound great.

I'm not crazy for the feel of EL84 tubes but that's definitely a killer sounding little amp. Damn!

Wow! I used to not be a big fan of EL84 driven amps. Some the more recent little amps that have come out are changing that a bit. They dont have that tone thing (boxy? not sure how to describe) that always bugged me with 84s. This amp is awesome!

You can get really close to the same vibe out of the Orange OR15 and Terror amps, or the Jet City 22w head with two channels.

The Friedman heads have that little extra special "something" that you get from hand-wired amps but the affordable amps get you at least 80% there.

Lots of Friedman's circuits are also available online and are just a few component changes off from basic Marshall JCMs and Plexis. My buddy who's an amp tech rebuilt a broken Laney Pro Tube 50 into a Brown Eye and charged me like $600 for it haha...

I'm completely with you bro' in this. Maybe it's some sort of compression that feels weird after the EL34 / 6L6 more dynamic game, maybe a little more hair, a tiny little thing with the mids adding boxiness - I can't really describe it and it is sublime but the taste hits you instantly as you start playing one.

Re: Friedman Jerry Cantrell 20w

My local shop has a JJ20. I played it. I dug it, but would have to spend more time with it to fall in love. Since I've had six other Friedman amps, I've grown kinda picky. LOL! Honestly, I'm still madly in love with the BE50 Deluxe. Talk about the kitchen sink amp to end all kitchen sink amps!

Re: Friedman Jerry Cantrell 20w

$1500 is a bit for a 20watt amp, but much less than Id expected. Ive seen more vids on this and it really covers alot of ground..

Re: Friedman Jerry Cantrell 20w

I love the tone of these, even more than a lot of Marshalls I've heard. When I mentioned that to my buddy who owns an AxeFx, he said that even on that device, the Friedman models have something extra special about them.
