From Lies to Light

What would you like to know?

I think I used the Parker Fly Deluxe on this song. Different Helix preset based on a VH patch.

It sounds nice, I’m wondering what it’s about. I have my theories but I don’t want to speculate. You’re singing on this one?

My guitar teacher way back in the early 00s had a Fly. Looked awesome, had quite a sophisticated trem system, tension wheel and piezos built in to it. It looked really cool too. So, very nice. Just using the magnetic pickups for this?

The bridge pickup is an MJ custom rewind to Brobucker specs. That pickup was used throughout the song.

it’s not used here, but the neck pickup is rewound to A2Pro specs. MJ is the BEST.

yes, I’m singing. The lyrics are a call to leave the lies and darkness of this world for the Light of the World.

The lead was improvised in one take as part of the “live” recording. For most songs I recorded leads after the fact. I had never played it remotely like that in rehearsal.

The guitar track for this one was done during the marathon session laying the basic tracks.

my favorite feature of the Helix is the snapshot capability. One switch to change all pedals/amp needed for different tones.

The drums are a custom DW kit w/Zildjian cymbals.

The drums were recorded with overhead mics, snare/hi-hat mic, and a kick mic.

Keys, bass were direct, guitar direct from the Helix.

Vox added later w/ a Rode NT-1A mic.

Nice, I figured they were real, acoustic drums. They add a very live feel. The NT-1 is a great mic and I feel it does cardioid better than the NT-2.

The song meaning is particularly relevant to me at this point in my life <3.

This is a preset I’ve used for a couple of other songs since I got my Helix. The shell of it is from a guy named Chris Beaver who runs a Helix preset Facebook page.other than acoustic presets, I think this is the only IR I use. Otherwise, I’m satisfied with the onboard cabinet models.

Centaur OD into Peavey 5150 head into the IR into a Matchless DC 30 (in series) w/ 2x12 G25 greenback cab w/ 409 dynamic mic

MXR Phase 90 script and MXR 117 Flanger, chamber reverb and simple delay for effects.

Weird. The link doesn’t work, but it’s the link from the track on SoundCloud.

The song is there in the app, and I can play it. When I attempt to edit, “something went wrong.”

:dunno:
