This is one of those really interesting pedals, because it's closest relative is the T. Rex Mudhoney, although the SAS is EF86 tube driven. What it does is a loud, fat, majestically ugly river of gain, that can do a few things GREAT. If you run it into a clean combo, it'll make it like a dimed combo, like it's ready to explode. If you put it into a plexi, you'll have that Tony Iommi Sabbath corpulent tone. Into a gainy amp, you've got the best DOOM tone ever. This pedal into an overdriven tube amp may be the best heavy doom type sound I've ever heard.
What this means is you can have a broken up blues tone that's addictive, or you can use it for a huge over the top river of sludge. Way cool pedal!
Being made by Fryette, the founder of VHT, gives one the impression that this pedal will do a tight percussive metal distortion. It's not the pedal for that, which is odd coming from Fryette. What it does is utilize it's EF86 pre tube, slamming the front end of your amp with 12 volts/500mA of tube power, of which you have control over the bias of the tube with a knob on top.
This is what you'd call an "over the top" type tube driver, where you set the volume and gain lower than you'd usually set them, because it's got a lot of output and head room. This allows the notes to be fat, 3D, and basically like you ran your fingers across all the knobs on your amp to 10.
This pedal is brand new, beautiful metallic dark orange, and the tube vents in the front are always lit orange, and when you turn on the pedal, the tube turns red. It's a badass looking pedal. It's in the original box with it's power supply.
Think of this as a fat dimed combo blues tone to a chunky distortion, to utter and complete Chernobyl DOOM meltdown.....blatty in the most fat and beautiful way.
$265 list, and this is in brand new pristine, unused condition.
For $160 money order, it'll be at your door 10 AM the following day. Fedex.
This pedal will be a sleeper classic. It's the DOOM pedal by legendary Fryette, and while it's not for tight death metal type tones, it's for big fat corpulent amp exploding tone.
