I have an Epiphone Dot that was made in 2002. The mods include the pickguard being changed to a black LP pickguard, Schaller pickups, 250k bridge volume pot, also the bridge volume pulls out to spilt the HB. It spilts both the bridge and neck so you can technically get 6 tones out of it. HB bridge, HB neck, SC bridge, SC neck, and the two middle combinations.
The pickups are Schallers, I'm pretty sure the neck is a Golden 50 (one of the best PAF clones on the market) and the bridge I'm not sure about but it has Hex poles (under nickel cover) and it's a bit hotter. Not crazy but my guess is in the 15k range. I'm also pretty sure that by the way they respond, they are alnico 5 magnets. (under better nickel covers than the originals).
The neck pickup is quite possibly the coolest neck bucker I have ever heard. Super Super responsive, beautiful clean up and the tone is full and rich. I cannot say enough about the neck pickup. The bridge is pretty good too and is pretty cool because you can get some harder rock sounds out of it while still sounding vintage. Great combination.
The playability is great. It's well broken in and I just recently did one of the best set ups of my life on it. Low action, while still being loose and easy to bend. Very little buzzing and the frets still got life in them.
THE BAD: It's a B-stock because the headstock, according to Gibsons records, had a few adjacent paint chips in it. They are in the corner of the headstock and they go through the paint. Not bad chips but you know they are there.
There is also a couple large scratches on the front of the guitar that do not go through the paint but if you look at them from a couple feet away they are definitely there. There is numerous swirling and scratch marks. Some of the paint is starting to wear off around the F-holes.
I really dig how it looks though. It looks like it's been through a lot while still being cared for. Almost looks aged. Real nice.
If you haven't been able to tell. I really like this guitar. It plays awesome, sounds great, and looks like it's been gigged for a few years. There are just other things I feel like I need to take care of right now.
THIS IS NOT AN ACTUAL PIC:
But it does look the same. Nickel covers and all. The only thing visually that changed is the curvy pickguard into a flat one and it looks much classier IMHO.
I can provide actual pics of the guitar provided you are interested in buying the guitar and have a cell phone I can send pics too.
$275 (a steal) shipped and insured in the CONUS. USPS Money orders only please.
EDIT: $250 shipped!
