For sale: A 2013 Gibson Les Paul LPJ with minor upgrades. I'm the original owner, and this guitar has a bit of studio time on it, but no gigging wear. Asking $499.00 shipped to the lower 48.

I'll ship it to you double-boxed in its original Gibson gig bag.

Gibson-provided stats are below, but I figure you probably already know what this is: a no-nonsense MIA Les Paul. Here are the specifics on this guitar:

  • Weight: A bit over 9 lbs. Feels heavy, sounds heavy, just like a Gibson should.
  • Pickups: I tried several sets of pickups in this, but ended up reinstalling the stock 490/498 set, and have been more than satisfied with them for a long time now. The bridge pickup is stock. The magnet in the neck 490 was swapped for an Alnico V, which made a night-and-day difference to the clarity while still keeping it smooth and woody-sounding. Sometimes the simplest tweaks are the best.
  • Electronics: I replaced the Gibson circuit board with a real wiring harness. CTS 500k pots all around, .47 Orange Drop capacitors. Wired 50's style.
  • Wear: Minimal. Frets are near-new. I've supplied pics of all major nicks I could see, the largest being what looks to be a string impression on the front between the pickups. There's no clearcoat on this guitar, so it's going to pick up little love bites like these over the years -- I'd call that a "feature" instead of a flaw, but be aware that this baby's going to age differently than a clearcoated LP.
  • Sound: Darker, growly, with a grind and warmth to the highs. Likes Alnico V and Ceramic pickups (it screamed with a Duncan SH-5 Custom!). The current set easily covers a range from jazz and blues up through hard rock.

Specs from Gibson:
  • Body: Mahogany w/ Traditional weight relief
  • Top: Maple top / Mahogany back
  • Neck: Set-Neck Maple, '50s Rounded Profile
  • Fingerboard: Rosewood Trapezoid Inlays
  • Hardware: Satin Chrome tune-o-matic
  • Electronics: 490R Neck and 498T Bridge Pickups (custom)
  • Finish: 20 Sheen Ultra smooth satin
  • Black Speed Knobs

Re: FS 2013 Gibson LPJ, Cherry

LPJs are great LPs at crazy low prices. I picked up 4 of them new for $600-$720 a few years ago.

What do they give up to more expensive models? Bling, and only bling. I have a bunch of LPs; the LPJs stand up to the much more expensive ones in terms of tone and playability (yes they are plekked) easily. Each had fantastic fretwork, and the thin finish really lets the wood resonate. The necks are quarter sawn maple. Didn't think I'd like maple neck on a mahogany LP at first but I love it. The only thing they give up to the more expensive ones is expensive handwork like binding and pearl logo inlay, and shiny thick nitro finish. One of my LPJs is now my #1 or #2 LP, and given how many I have and how much more the rest cost, that's sayin something.

GLWTS.

Thanks for the bump Ray. And yeah, I feel the same way -- great sleeper, and the only potential weak point in the entire instrument is a serviceable but mediocre nut material (cut just fine, but it's plastic, I think).

If I didn't really need the cash, I'd just play the damn thing instead. :( Nothing else I have sounds quite like it.
