FS: Soldano SLO clone 50w (UK)

Hey guys I recently built this to experiment with new parts from different companies and now that I know the results I no longer need it as well I already have one!

It's ridiculously quiet the on the lead channel the only real noise is a very minimal amount of thermal noise.

Also the transformers can handle pretty much any octal valve type however kt88/6550 require a very slight mod (2 resistors) But as stock you can stick any old 5881/6L6GC/KT66/KT77/EL34/E34L,6CA7 etc in it and it's good to go.

Its got

  • Elevated heaters
  • Belton Valve Sockets
  • Valve Buffered effects loop
  • Depth Mod
  • Slave Out Circuit (this is very handy as you can use it for a wet/dry setup or direct out recording as it captures the power amp too and you can just bang some impulses on after)
  • Mallory 150 caps
  • Sprague Atom, F&T Electrolytics in the preamp
  • Nichicon Filter Electros
  • Custom made Transformers & 10h choke
  • External Bias adjustment pot and test points

It's the top one in this picture

Of course you are welcome to come and try it first and ill try and get some clips up this weekend.

£800 Collection from wakefield only unfortunately. I'm also open to offers and partial trades so hit me up with anything you have in mind.

Also I will service & repair any faults with the amp for a period of one year. This does not include valves as these are subject to wear and tear etc.

Hey man! I just wanted to say VERY good work here!!!! This is a quality amp! Very worth the price!

Re: FS: Soldano SLO clone 50w (UK)

Hey. Thanks for the kind comments. A lot of work goes into these and it's something I absolutely love doing and hopefully that comes through in the final build!

Re: FS: Soldano SLO clone 50w (UK)

I really wish i could afford this! :(

Fantastic work Tony, gorgeous amp!

Re: FS: Soldano SLO clone 50w (UK)

Wow, looks awesome.

If you don't mind, I was curious about the 10h choke. I've seen recommendations about putting in a 3-4h choke in a DSL100. 10h in a 50w seems like a lot.

What is the impact on tone going with a large henry choke like that?

Thanks.

The reason for the 10h choke is to keep with the feel of the original amp somewhat. It just keeps the amp tight and in control but due to the hi-def output transformer it doesn't get stiff and awkward it just has a nice clean attack

If it was in a marshall that was 50w the amp would most likely be far too stiff.
However you could easily get away with 5-6.3h at the most. It all depends on what kind of feel you want to achieve really.

Another plus for using higher value chokes is it also lowers the noisefloor a bit too and helps with power supply hum rejection.

Cool. Thanks for the help with the choke. I guess when you pick a choke, it needs to work with the "big picture".

I have a 1979 (year) set o trannies from a 100w Marshall (Town and Country combo LOL!). I need to get off my ass an do a build like this with those trannies.

Nice job.

Yeah you really need to take into consideration what the final sound will be.

Some of the lee Jackson modded marshalls used 40h chokes and had a lot of low end cut early on in the preamp which is what gives them that really tight midrange based sound.

In your trannies you could probably piece together something really nice!

Hi mate - do you still have your Soldano clone for sale? If so let me know. PM me :)

Hello Vincent. Unfortunately this one has gone to a fellow forum member.

I may do another around October but I aren't sure yet.

Do you have clips of the clones you make? What transformers are you using? Onetics? Let me know as I am after a 220 volt SLO-100.
